Also with some of the episodes that torture Carl, I like to think that those episodes are like Squidward torture porns done correctly, since there is more effort here.ย

I actually thought the movie was the pinnacle of the series. Surprising as someone who was disappointed by both movies from Simpsons and South Park
Its definitely wacky and an acquired taste, but so worth acquiring.
They use all different blends of comedy to make it work!

This is one of my favourite cartoons of all time.
One reason, I like the show is because its surprisingly smart. You're right, the interactions between the characters in this show are genius. It just feels like you're watching a conversation with somebody in real-life. (Another show that did that brilliantly was Home Movies, I suggest you check that out too)
Another reason is because of the wide variety of characters in the show, each of them are unique and different in many ways. (Say who your favourite character is, mine are the villains)

It's one of those good shows that happens to be animated, not that the animation is amazing in and of itself. The humor mainly comes from the writing, characters, etc. Other shows I would consider to be in that category would be things like Archer and Bob's Burgers. Other people might call it illustrated radio, to steal a term Chuck Jones created.
