Description
This is a drawing of the famous "Robby The Robot". Robby made his first appearance in the 1956 Sci-Fi Classic "Forbidden Planet". Robby went on to star in many other movies, always credited under his own name. He will always be remembered most for Fobidden Planet. If you younger DA members haven't seen this one, I suggest renting it. You'll ove it. Many of the ideas in this movie were later used in Sci-Fi projects like Star Trek. It's a great movie and I will always have a soft spot for this Robot.P.S.
If you think he looks a lot like the Robot from "Lost in Space", it's because that robot was designed by the same guy. so I guess Robby has a brother huh? *lol*
The drawing is 18x24 on smooth bristol paper. It took me about 30hrs.

I just brought the huge tin box set of Forbidden Planet (also comes with The Invisible Boy) and having to relive the movie and Robby, I've never had more pleasant memories (Well technically I have, but it's fun to exaggerate.).
"I am mon-i-tored to respond to the name, Robby."
Nice drawing, REALLY nice work.

Thank you very much. Have you seen the guy that sell the FULL SIZED Robby replicas? One day when I hit the lottery. ahhhhhhhh. Not a bad looking for a 50 year old toaster with a bubble on his head! *lol*

I haven't 'seen' him, but I've got a slip advertising his replicas and later found his website. I wouldn't mind concidering a Robby of my own, of course it would help if the guy gave more specific information on how much they cost, how much for shipping, and just how exactly I'm supposed to contact him.

TY Nic! Wait till I post his brother from Lost in Space.
I say brother because the same guy designed him too.

Incredibly nice detail: You've just got too love Robby. Ever since I've seen the film, it's hard not too catch all his cameos. I particularly liked his appearance in The Twilight Zone.

Thank you. Did you ever see Robby in "The Invisible Boy"? He even made an appearance on Columbo and the Love Boat! Robby really got around!

Thanks E! Robby has that dull luster that all robots should have. Except for that over talkative one in Star Wars! *lol*

Great job on the metal! I don't know anything about Robby the Robot but my husband does! (Not surprising, huh??? I'm not much of a TV or movie person, especially if it is sci-fi, but my husband is a sci-fi nut! ) However, I don't need to see the movie to know that this is wonderfully done!
(On a side note....I've missed seeing you on AP....is everything alright? I haven't been as active there recently either, though, but that's because of my neck....)
Oh! Did you get to that

April,
Thanks for your comments. Robby was always a boyhood fantasy of mine, I wanted one for my very own! What 10 year old boy wouldn't?*lol* It wasn't until I was older that I was impressed by his design.
There's this guy in California that makes full sized replicas of Robby that talk and the whole nine yards!
If i ever hit the lottery, I'll have one in the poolroom, next to the bar shaped like a UFO. Yeh.....I'm a sci-fi geek! *lol*
I know you haven't seen me much over at AP but I'm doing fine. better than fine actually. I started a new job a little over a month ago and it's left me with little time for drawing. I have also hit a mental block for a subject. That's why I been posting my older stuf here. DA folk haven't seen the stuff I already posted at AP. I am starting a drawing this weekend so look forward to a WIP here and in AP.
So tell me....what's wrong with your neck? Are YOU alright?

LOL! You'd actually have one in your poolroom????
I'm glad things are going great for you, Tim! I have been wondering about you, hoping you were well, so I'm so glad to hear things are going well. I'm looking forward to seeing your new WIP at AP.
My neck....sigh....it's become quite the pain! I know, I know, That was a bad one, wasn't it????
Anyway, I somehow hurt the muscles in it. It was diagnosed as a neck injury like whiplash. I have no idea how it happened but it did. I wasn't in an accident. I wonder if it was caused from working on my drawing for hours and hours at a time.....Sitting at a new drafting table (a really nice one! I love it!) but I had reclined on the couch while drawing before that, so maybe the new change in position did it? Who know, but it happened. So I suffer from neck pain and dizziness if the pain is really bad. I have been taking some great medication now though. It doesn't knock me out like the first stuff they gave me, yet it makes my neck feel better.
I have to take it easy now though. They said I could be feeling this way for up to 8 motnhs or so.....
