Nimrod-Class

Designed as a blockade runner and heavy gunship, the Nimrod-Class entered service with the Rothan Intersolar Republic Military in the mid-2060s. Much of the Nimrod was based around century old bombers and gunships used by the Republic Air Force. Its weapons compliment, which includes seven exposed forward firing 40mm repeating railguns, dorsal and ventral turrets with twin 80mm guns, and a tail barbette with two 60mm guns, gave this spacecraft a distinctly archaic appearance.

Nimrod ships are capable of atmospheric and exoatmospheric flight, relying on a mixture of air-breathing turbines and fusion-powered, air-cooled ion engines respectively for propulsion. These vessels were developed prior to mass adoption of vespomide reactors, and although many were upgraded the majority continued to utilise D-He3 fuelled reactors. The Nimrod class was retired from active Rothan service in the late 2090s and sold on or scrapped. Large numbers were provided to the collective militarised space forces of the Pachau and Arel Unions, will others fell into civilian hands as either disarmed cargo or retrofitted emergency vessels, or as smuggling ships.

CIV Matador

Civilian Interstellar Vehicle Matador was a V7-Model Nimrod operated by a multispecies smuggling gang in the 2110s. Matador had a crew of eight, a mix of humans, seqari and dorne who disappeared along with their vessel from a Tarrus-3 spaceport on January 7th 2117. Two days later the OPS Trepsis station, a refuelling depot in orbit over Ospyr Prime, was destroyed when the reactor of a docked ship detonated during transfer of D-He3. Salvage operations in the following weeks recovered a flight recorder identifying the culprit vessel as the Matador. It subsequently revealed that the reactor was intentionally set to overload, causing an electrical discharge that ignited and detonated a compartment filled with hydrogen vapour from a sabotaged coolant pipe. This explosion was exacerbated by the vessel's turbofan fuel reserves and the deuterium taken aboard, which in turn led to fires and explosions aboard the Trepsis.
