Description
Extended Combat Exosuit. Updated KHA background as well as some information on the suit. Further updates will be made to the info in time.
A KHA-designed and built next-generation exoskeletal powered armour.
Did my best not to make it look like a knock-off of MJOLNIR or the Crysis Nanosuit. Problem is these two suits have a lot of logical components, particularly the nanosuit, for something like this. So let's say it was heavily inspired by
• Multi-level armour protection, consisting of quad-layered shape memory para-aramid fabric instilled with cobalt-titanium tri-weave thread and carbon nanotube molecules, beneath which is a layer of variable viscosity electrorheological fluid containing ferromagnetic Magnetite nanoparticles. When charged with an electrical current, both the outer skin and inner armour stiffen and their particles and molecules align for reinforcement. This armour is capable of withstanding heavy calibre ammunition by catching and redistributing the kinetic energy.
• A nanocrystalline ferromagnetic coating applied beneath the surface armour of the suit provides electromagnetic and RF electromagnetic radiation protection, while a copper Faraday mesh infusion in the underlying layers provides electrical insulation against discharge and non-lethal shock shell ammunition or other Taser devices.
• Thermoelectric and OLED cells in the skin surface provide unmatched camouflage adaptation. Analysis of the surroundings enables the suit to mimic the environment and display a pattern either in visual or infrared wavelengths, concealing the suit and wearer to both the naked eye and FLIR systems. A true cloaking device, while considered, was not implemented.
• A layer of artificial muscles fabricated from electroactive polymer and built into the undersuit provides increased physical strength and prowess to the wearer, enabling actions above even the best athletes. The wearer may lift weights in excess of 1000lbs and exhibit a striking force in excess of 3000lbs. It is also possible to leap three times higher than normal due to the stored elastic energy in the leg muscles. Electrorheological dampeners in the boot soles help soften falls from greater heights.
• Suit joints are constructed from titanium-dipped carbon fibre coated with Teflon to prevent fouling through friction and layered internally with para-aramid sheets.
• An underlying compression layer inflates in a high-G environment, ensuring the wearer remains conscious.
• The suit is fully water and airtight, flame and NBC resistant.
• A thick Kevlar undergarment worn by the wearer protects against any nips in joints and serves as a final layer of ballistic protection. This undergarment is also flame retardant, moisture wicking and insulating in the event of a suit climate-control failure. It acts as an additional compression layer to help prevent bleeding in the event of injury. It covers all but the face of the wearer.
• Primary power is supplied by a full spinal length V-Non cell, while rechargeable solid oxide fuel cells in the shoulder reinforcement plates supply subsystem and emergency power. The latter source can recharge via nantenna receptors in the backplate that collect solar energy, or from the thermal and kinetic energy produced by the wearer. The fuel cell requires refuelling after 504 hours or three weeks of continual use, through either removal or resupply from the helmet’s electrolytic cell. Nanowires connect all powered components to the power pack.
• The suit computer system is a Wetware-based unit located in a reinforced titanium and carbon fibre shell at the top of the spinal reinforcement. As an artificially produced, but organic device, it acts as both storage and hosts the suits narrow non-cognitive AI, SIMON, the Systems Integrated Molecular Operating Network. This ‘processor’ shares greater similarity to a reduced power human brain than a machine CPU, with a processing ability of 12.1 Teraflops and a storage capacity of 2 Petabytes. SIMON can connect instantly to NetOps and scan entire databases in nanoseconds for information, provide tactical advice and operational alternatives based on the situation, and even assume control of the suit in emergencies. SIMON can discern and monitor incoming projectiles and distribute electrical current to the suit where needed to reinforce it in 0.5 nanoseconds. He may also provide ballistics data, allowing the wearer to see exactly where his/her rounds will hit. SIMON was created through molecular electronics and DNA nanotechnology, and partial whole brain uploading from its creator, Professor Jonathan Creed, which gives the AI a responsive personality.
• Head and neck protection provided by a fully sealed helmet constructed from titanium-dipped carbon fibre reinforced with a tungsten-carbide lattice. A microphone in the neck sheath runs sound from the throat through a transducer, rendering the vibrations into transmittable radio signals. A layer of EEG receptors permits thought controlled commands as well as instantaneous data transmission between SIMON and the wearer. The helmet splits into the cheek panels, visor and forehead, and facemask for removal or face-to-face communication. It locks onto the neck sheath connected to the torso armour.
• A two-way visor of smart laminated tri-layer ballistic grade transparent aluminium with an active collimated Heads-Up Display delivered through fibre optics supplies the wearer with mission critical information, situational awareness and environmental mapping. Variable magnification up to 50x normal permits distant observation, while white/black hot thermal, heartbeat and acoustic locator modes provide alternate methods of tracking the enemy. When linked to an electro-optical gunsight such as that of the X-1 PMR, a targeting aid will appear, along with an image from the sight depicting what it sees.
• The facemask includes a passive voice modulator for identity protection, a self-contained breathing apparatus connected to an auxiliary bailout system, rebreather connected to a scrubbing unit, electrolytic cell for hydrolysis and a High-Efficiency Particulate Air filtration system to protect the wearer from airborne contaminants. The facemask negates the effects of overpressure thanks to a valve system. An olfactory sensor in the facemask of acuity equivalent to 100 million times the sensitivity of the human nose allows scent tracking on par with a Bloodhound when activated. The system is sensitive enough to detect explosive compounds and provides visual reference.
• Aural reception system can boost or reduce the frequency of noises in the infrasonic or ultrasonic range and translate them into discernible audio. A highly sensitive directional microphone system allows the pickup of conversations of normal volume at distances of 1km. An active noise control system protects the wearer from potentially damaging sounds such as close range gunfire or explosions.
• Advanced intelligence gathering is possible through a series of EEG sensors in the fingertips of the suit gloves, allowing instant collection of electrical activity from the mind of a subject and translation into readable data. Additional hyperspectral sensors in the palms allow detection of secreted oils and genetic material, permitting the discovery and scanning of fingerprints and other organic matter. Blood samples taken can undergo analysis in a wrist-mounted system linked into NetOps via SIMON.
• Portable uplink devices with universal connectors allow wireless integration of computer systems with SIMON or external systems via NetOps, allowing the upload of programs, download of information, or remote searches. Wireless code and encryption scramblers enabling the bypass of cipher-locked security systems are also available.
• Encrypted COMSEC broadcasting ensures secure radio transmission, while a frequency scanning system allows the wearer to contact almost anyone. Radio transmissions, encrypted or open, may be received and decrypted by SIMON in an eavesdropping function. Furthermore, the suit carries a jamming system to block enemy communications. The ECE connects directly to the Transformational Satellite Network to communicate in the UHF, VHF and L Band ranges.
• An automatic injection system provides the wearer with stimulants, nutrients, salts and minerals to combat fatigue, dehydration and hunger levels in extended use. SIMON will monitor the wearer’s physical condition at all times and introduce them if necessary to maintain performance. Water and liquid food induction tubes connected to back-mounted supplies allow hydration and sustenance on extended opeations.
• Climate-controlled interior protects the wearer from the extremes of hot and cold environments. The suit is operational in temperatures down to -270°C and up to 1,500°C (ambient heat) and 2,000°C (radiant heat), while maintaining a comfortable internal temperature of 20°C. An anti-icing heating element throughout the suit surface ensures no build of ice that could affect mobility and operation, while a cooling system prevents damage through extreme heat exposure.
• The suit is pressurised for space EVA and deep water diving, negating the effects of hypoxia or decompression sickness on the wearer. The suit can theoretically operate at depths of 2,000m and may even survive re-entry.
• Built-in RCS thrusters allow precision control underwater and in space, while a backpack-style jump jet unit grants limited flight capability.
• Gauntlet-mounted folding tri-blades offer additional offensive and defensive capability in lieu of primary bladed weapons.
• In case of operator death or severe injury creating abnormal or insufficient heart palpitations, the suit is designed to instantly disengage for easy removal and sever all remote and signal links.

First of all, Boba Fett has nothing on this. Secondly, can the ECE be modified to use the M3 back mounted rocket launcher or does the VIAU prevent that?

lol
VIAU can be removed, so the M3 could be fitted to it

I can see Commander Shepard, as an alternate start to Mass Effect 2, wearing this armor and accompanying weapons (X-1, X-2, and V-Sentinel) after he/she wakes up. While Cerberus does Project Lazarus, they commission KHA to build this, code-named Project Aries (the Golden Fleece ram) Bankruptcy well earned xD
Can the visor go one-way and/or polarize when looking at bright lights?

MOAB23 In reply to Mr-Dr-Sweetness [2016-08-08 15:12:20 +0000 UTC]
Hehe
It can indeed. Most visors, and even windshields, automatically polarize when subjected to harsh lighting. Military helmet visors, military vehicles windshields and military/civil aircraft windshields also have a vision enhancement mode for night operation, whereby the entire visor/screen operates like a giant NVG.

Question is this armor for standard troops of spec ops troops ?

ECE is an experimental armour system, with only two suits made. They have an astronomical price tag, and so would not be cost effective (to outfit my entire Raven special forces unit, you're looking about 500 billion Dura [equivalent to Dollars], one apiece). The SPARO (Special Purpose Assault and Reconnaissance Operations) series is what my spec-ops wear, with Ravens wearing the most advanced variation at any given time. SPARO-V will be derived from the ECE and incorporate many of its features for a fraction of the price

What do you mean by "volume projection", External speakers? That would be funny to be rescued by these guys yet not hear their conversation. Or they start talking to you, not realizing their mics are off.

It's a function that can allow anything from simple communication with someone not connected via radio, to full scale booming god voice to scare the crap out of people.

So does this armour augment the users strength? Also what's it's power source?

MOAB23 In reply to Commander-Fillmore [2014-09-14 11:01:41 +0000 UTC]
Quadruples operator strength, which is even more considerable if said operator has cybernetic enhancements, through a combination of artificial muscles and the exoskeleton.
Power source is a Vespomide battery pack located in the spinal reinforcement column.

MOAB23 In reply to Lt-Havoc [2013-04-17 20:49:14 +0000 UTC]
Magazine pouches are similar to polymer 'fastmags', which attach to the circular ports on the front of the armour, and on the legs. They could wear additional belts or webbing though if necessary. Weapons would just be slung, but I did look into a 'wing' of electroactive polymer that could fold around a weapon and then hug it close to their flank, sort of how a rifle is carried in a parachute jump.

MOAB23 In reply to ArmamentDawg [2013-04-12 15:48:42 +0000 UTC]
It's actually for irradiated woodland/autumn. There's a place in the country this camouflage originates from (Rotha), which is similar to Chernobyl, with forests of dead trees that turned a rusty colour. Originally designed for that, but would work in Autumn and I guess it could work on Mars too. Never actually thought about Mars, heh.

Hey, great to see these here! I came across your work a while ago an like the style.
I agree about the suits; there's only so much you can do differently if you want something to function. Convergent evolution, as it were. This looks unique though. Looking forward to seeing more of your work here!
