I know this is probably a stupid question, but what are the brush/settings for the opaque?

thanks

Ah, that's a good question! it's been a while since I've made this tutorial, and I do it a bit different today -- but, if I'm not mistaken, I just had pen pressure ticked on size and opacity. Since Photoshop Elements 8 doesn't have a lot of settings like full versions of Photoshop, I often just use the brushes as they are, or download new brushes if I'm looking for new textures (and play around with lowering and raising the opacity of the brush). Hopefully that answers your question somewhat!

Wow thanks! So, what would be the best brush to use when trying to sort of imitate the opaque?

Hmm, well, if you don't have an 'opaque brush' available in your program, I think the closest you can get is to have a hard brush with pen pressure on. I don't the hard brush has the same properties as the airbrush though, so you might not get the same effect. o: Or, you can always download a brush that has that sort of "airbrush" effect. I just use an 'opaque / airbrush' brush because I find it blends better, and flows better than a hard brush (especially because Photoshop Elements 8.0 doesn't have an option for "flow"!)

I have been searching for an opaque brush for about a week and I was finally just like :facedesk:

I will look for a brush that has the airbrush quality!

Thanks a lot!

Hun, this is literally the best tutorial I've come across. This has everything I need, and it's what got me into repainting horses.

wow that makes me so happy to hear because I honestly thought this tutorial was so vague!! but I'm so glad it helped you!

gurtagon In reply to mockingale [2013-06-13 22:25:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, it's not vague at all! I think you explained everything perfectly, I love this tutorial and it made me better as an artist. Thank you for making it! (btw, I'm in love with the walkthrough "The Making of YOU FOUND ME" . It taught me a lot.

It would be lovely if you could do an in-depth description/tutorial of re-painting horses! I'm kinda new to that, luckily this tutorial taught me the basics, and I would definitely keep coming back to that tuto!

Thanks again!

I'm so glad to hear that then! <3 That's exactly my goal and it makes it all worth it to know that I've done that! aw I thought not a lot of people had paid attention to my upload of that walkthrough so I'm stoked that it helped you!

I'll most likely look into making another horse prep / repainting tutorial, just because I feel like I could have gone so much more in depth with this one! Also because my technique has changed a lot since I made this tutorial so it'll be fun to share that.

You're so welcome!

Yeah, well, we start school early, so we end earlier than some other districts.

Neither can I! I've never been able to make a good pixel, no matter how hard I try

ive found your tutorials rather helpful when im practicing my manips, i was actually wondering if youd be able to do one on muscle definition? such as shadows/highlights and where they should go to get the best result. i would very much love this <3

That's a good suggestion! I'll definitely keep it in mind; in fact, that might be the next tutorial I create! I can't promise it especially soon, but I'll certainly consider doing it in the near future.
