Description
Playing with and learning about ProCreate (app). This is what spilled out.I was really focused more on ‘mask’ [clipping vs layer mask] use so started with a circle and played around. I was also playing around with the different brushes/textures since having to retry/relearn which brushes I like, what they do, etc. eats a lot of my time from actually ‘creating’. (I should draw/practice more!)
“GhostPaper” on YouTube has excellent tutorials on all aspects of ProCreate. Watching these [again] is what prompted me to do some practice [again].
I didn’t really have a plan other than using the masks to highlight and shadow. Then I had half an idea of adding ‘eyes’ to make it like a helmet. Then I [happy] accidentally filled one of my layers in that deep red which I then made background. Then I decided to play with ‘splatter’ to make a starry reflection on what was now the visor. As that want going to my liking I tried to do that as a starry background. That wasn’t going great either. So then I just went for a ‘starburst’ effect to contrast the light/dark of the ‘planet/helmet/whatever I was creating’. And that REALLY made the whole piece pop and click into place. Even though the whole piece is a wandering mess(?)
Though I have posted this I am still conflicted about having posted it. It does not match anything in my gallery and I don’t feel this represents my ‘style’ but I can’t help but be enamored by the contrast and depth of this piece. I suppose too that anyone’s style is informed by all of their practice and work so maybe this is my style or a part of it and I just haven’t developed it yet. It was helpful for my learning for sure. And if I knew what I was doing and/or had an actual plan for this piece I likely would have done it landscape instead of portrait.
Critiques, comments, advise, etc. always welcome.
