This is my depiction of his character, Seras. Her description read as follows:
A woman of an alien race that has lived quite a lifespan but has a young appearance. She has been blind since birth, but due to her senses has become a specialty with hunting beasts and sniping. Her culture is very Japanese inspired, and she tends to wear clothing similar to a kimono, or something completely contrasting like a tight suit built for stealth. She is serious and caring and could be considered the most mature of the group.
I have to admit the idea of a blind sniper intrigued me and after viewing this reference work [link] I knew I had to try her from a low angle viewpoint.

The perspective is perfect! Her designs are exceptionally well done and her armor looks amazing. I love the silver and black theme with the hint of blue. It all flows and comes together nicely. Keep up the good work!

Dang! your getting good! And Fast! It's awesome to see you progressing this quickly. Did you ever imagine it coming to you this rapidly?
On to the pic.
It's got your signature look, but on steroids. All those textures are sharp, and rendered well. You put so many on her and did a good job balancing them. Nothing overwhelms. The lightning effects and luminescent gear are great accents, well placed. I'm also getting a kick out of how well you designed her outfit. Did you plan it out before hand?
Her face is a huge step forward, she's pretty and young even though you have allot of rendering going on. Tough one, bro. Good job.
The only crit I have is with the flesh that shows on her legs. It looks a bit .....pudgy/soft. Not that she has fat legs, it just looks squishy instead of hardened muscle. Besides that I got nothin!

Thank you very much, my friend. I do feel like I'm learning a lot with each piece. I've probably worked on art more in the last 6 months than I had in the previous 6 years, for numerous reasons, so I'd be pretty disappointed if I wasn't improving somewhat. I guess I expect a lot from each piece, usually more than I achieve. But Mojo refuses to believe that there is some something out there that he can't draw. Damn his arrogance!
Faces are still a challenge to paint but improving, I'm glad this one looked better. For some reason, they look fine in the lineart stage and then turn into mannequinns and/ or zombies when I add color. I really have to work to not over-render.
Glad you liked the armor, I wish I could say that I planned it all out ahead of time, but it was a combination of earlier concepts and Mojo's wimsy.

Cool, glad you understand. And it wasn't the straps dimpling, it's the shadows created around them. Maybe tighten up or sharpen the angles at the last second before the strap, giving it more firmness? Hey, I'm learning too. Don't got all the answers, heheheh.
Any hints on the face you learn, pass them along! I'm trying to render a Lady as well and could use any advice.

As to rendering faces without relying on linework, I've found a few tutorials helpful (sorry, I didn't record their URL's) but there are some if you look up collections> tutorials> faces. I kind of started looking at it like a topo map. The greater the change in skin tint, the steeper the terrain feature, so to speak. True lines are rare, but do exist, just not always as black inked lines. Sorry, doubt that helps... I'm really trying hard to learn it better myself. Honestly, I apply alot of the 'rule of right': keep reworking until it looks right.

I like the analogy of the topographical map. I guess it comes down to an intimate knowledge of the contours of the female face and how light plays with them. Hmm, wonder how my wife would feel about me following her around with a flashlight.0_o

Thanks Skate. Yeah, I've decided blue and black are my coloring favorites. The headgear is actually a visor of sorts. Open on top to allow her hair, with sensors and such around the crown. The basic idea came from an original pic of the character.
