So there has been alot of fuss over this photo looking very similar to the cover of the Twilight book. I'd like to take this time out to state that the similarities between the two happen to be completely unintentional & very unfortunate. I did not realize how alike the two were til after I posted it on another site some months ago. So now that you know that I am aware of how similar the two look you can all stop bringing it up please.
The inspiration did not come from Twilight at all, in fact I am not even remotely close to being a fan of stalkerish sparkly vegetarian vampires. I got the idea to do this last year after a friend sent me a link to Gnarls Barkley's video for "Who's Gonna Save My Soul". I had intended to originally do several photographs using hearts but this was the only one I ever got around to doing.
By the way, for all those wondering: Its a pig's heart.

It's very powerful though--I like how deep that red is in contrast to everything else. Mahvelous!

It's sad to hear that you've been getting so many Twilight-comparison comments on such an interesting picture as this. They should go read some real literature before they compare your work of art to such a piece of trash as Twilight.

being a twilighter the cover of twilight was the first thing that it came to my head, but i always read the artists comments before posting anything...a thing everyone should do, btw.
mmm i must admit is kinda hard for me to believe that it doesnt have anything to do with the cover because without the heart it looks almost exactly the same, even the position of the hands, lol xD

people gotta stop being so stupid, whether or not it was inspired by twilight doesn't mean it's not a strong piece of work. If the artist said "yeah, I did my own take on the cover" would that suddenly give people to right to bash her? nope. I think the fandom for twilight is just as ridiculous and strong and stupid and the anti-fandom.

congrats on the DD, but I find it hard to believe it wasn't intentional or that you didn't notice similarities. There are so many deviations right now based on the twilight cover from everything from holding the earth, to holding a christmas bulb in every medium. You seem so defensive about it, it's kinda hard not to believe that it wasnt inspired by it whether you like twilight or not, and you likely got some bad comments from twi-haters or something.
Art wise, it's very strong and I like the title because it makes me think of the book "the giver" where he saw everything in black and white and then the first colour he saw was red. Props to the model for holding a pigs heart I don't think I'd do that!

So because I am being defensive about it means it has to be based on Twilight? How does that logic even work? I posted this on another site back in February & got a total of 2 out of 54 comments about Twilight. Where as now its every other one out of 400. Its some what frustrating. I am sorry if I am being a bit rude but I just woke up & I am going through all these comments. My hand is almost permanently glued to my face in a "face-palm" fashion.

you're not being rude. I'm just agreeing that it's very hard to believe it's not inspired by the twilight covers, not accusing you, just agreeing and seeing your point why people are causing you trouble and pointing out that your description might be fueling some of it because you're feeling defensive of your work.
But, for as many nice things as a DD brings it brings frustrating ones as well. I once got a DD for my emotion in a photograph and got lots of comments telling me I have no emotion.

Twilight wasn't even the first to have that cover style anyway. It's been done several times before Twilight was even conceived. Now all of a sudden, just because someone takes a photo like this, it's automatically accused of being a piece inspired by that cover >_>

im not gonna say it looks like the twilight cover, cause its not really BUT ive seen a deviantion almost EXACTLY like this before, is was hand in a monochrome-ish tone holding a heart, it just had the word panic above it.
hah i know you dont really care, and the chances that you even seen what im talking about are pretty slim just...i dunno i almost thought it WAS the other one a saw for a sexc when i say this in the daily dev

this is beautifully macabre! I'm so sorry people keep comparing it to That Book, since it's clear that more thought went into this that just "gee, I'm going to copy the cover of a novel that has done horrible things to vampires." This piece is so chilling, and so wonderful... it calls to mind so many different books I've read, so many different things I've seen and heard and felt...
Mega grats on the DD!! You deserve it. And here's a real vampire to sic on the people who refuse to see the beauty of this piece because their heads are so wrapped up in Twilight...
