i made horns based off this tutorial a year and a half ago or so for halloween (and i still need to take photos of them whoops) and i put a few layers of paper mache over them before I painted them and they are super strong. I've thrown them across the room to put them away on my shelf several times and there isnt a scratch on them.
So id recommend paper mache-ing them

Found this on Pinterest. Made some today! Paint is still wet and they need some ageing/distressing. I used the hot glue gun to create texture on the horns and substituted in paper towel rolls. www.pinterest.com/pin/84864774β¦
Thank you for the wonderful idea!

No but really, mine didn't turn out as nice as yours, but they ended up being nice.
Thank you for helping me not waste money on horns for halloween.

Very nice.
An idea occurs to me that with nimble fingers, a thinner board, and a glue gun with a fine tip you could use a similar method for "copper" tubing on the cheap for Steampunk stuff.Β Or anything that requires attractive-but-non-functional "flexible" tubing , really.Β Or, if one was horribly clever, they could run flexline for air tubing through it for something... The possibilities are nicely endless.
Not my intention to hijack your tutorial, it's lovely on its own, it's just given me an idea of how to create more than just horns using the same general method.Β I'll need to try it later.

Indeed! I was actually hoping for someone to see how to use this technique for... more!
I love it when people take my ideas to the next level.Β
So thank you, sir, for thinking outside the box

Glad to have added to your idea, then.Β A box in no place for a curious mind to live~.
I have played around with the idea a little, I just need to get around to actually finishing something with it and posting results.Β I'll make a point to link back here when I do.Β Maybe somebody else will see a use for this method.

but this is a fantasic way to make nice horns

MonkeyNumber5 In reply to LOLMaxride [2014-03-06 15:34:04 +0000 UTC]
I used a thin metal hairband (black) to put them on. You can make two little cuts at the base of the horns and put the hairband through them. (Not sure if I used the right words)Β
And thank you for your comment!

Did you dip them or paint them with something at the end? Β Is it just paint? Β or a plaster type thing?
π: 0 β©: 1
MonkeyNumber5 In reply to LilLunaLady [2014-03-06 15:30:42 +0000 UTC]
Um, I painted the horns with a rather thick paint and used a rough brush. That way you can see the lines in the way you paint. I also painted in different layers and used three different shades of the same color to make them more epicΒ Β (as you can see, the horns are beige and more reddish around the edges)
