Name: Crocodile Boa or Megaboa

Biological Name: Megaloboa challengeri (Challenger's Mega Boa)

Length: 4-6 meters (13-19 ft, females), 2-3 meters (6.5-9.8 ft, males)

Habitat: wetlands and waterways

Diet: large xenarthrans, small mammals, birds, large fish, other reptiles

Classification: Boinae (true boas)

Description: Because of the absence of crocodilians, megaboas are given the opportunity to evolve a niche similar to the anaconda and crocodile, which is how the name "Crocodile Boa" was given to this large snake. It's eyes and nose are above the head, helping the boa to breathe on land while keeping it's body submerged in the water. It's dark coloration helps the boa blend in to the water. Megaboas are ambush predators, hunting in a similar fashion to crocodilians and anacondas, keeping it's head above the water, waiting for the perfect time to strike unsuspecting prey that stop by for a drink. Like their relatives, they catch their prey and wrap it's body around the prey (it depends on how big the prey is. If its small, they use half of their body or dont use constriction at all. If its large prey, they use their entire body and drag their prey to drown it), suffocating it's prey in a deadly grip. Crocodile boas would eat anything it can fit in their mouth, ranging from large mammals, to wading birds, to fish, and even one was seen eating a 2 meter long tyrant tegu! Like their relatives, females give birth to live young which the young are capable of surviving on their own.
