The extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs has given the opportunity for many animals to rapidly evolve and gain various niches. Atlantis became an experimental ground where animals are given adaptations that are found nowhere else on Earth. This happens to the avian dinosaurs, or better known as the birds. An example of this is the False Toucan. About the size of a crow, these unique birds have a evolved a long beak used to grabbing fruits and insects at a great distance. The most noteworthy aspect of these birds are their colors. Like most birds, the males are the most colorful, while the females are completely dull. There are many species that have unique colors on their heads and tail feathers that it is easy to tell one apart. The males also seem to have wire-like feathers located where their tail feathers are which makes them more attractive to mates.

The male attracts a mate by shaking his tail feathers giving a fascinating display of the wire-like feathers. The female decision would be to choose the male with the brightest coloration. Another species however, takes it to the next level. The male Blue Collared False Toucan (T. caeruleus) has 2 leaf like feathers that move up and down to give a flashing pattern. Females lay up to 2-4 eggs and raise their chicks on their own
