Aand here's the second Christmas commission, done for a dear friend who graduated from my college last year. She now lives in my area so she came to pick it up today.

To be truthful, I'm not thrilled with this painting. I experimented a good bit, and some paid off while others didn't. I'm mostly happy with the bird itself, but I think it got a little too muddy around the head, and I'm extremely unhappy with the background. By the time I realized what was wrong, though, it was too late to be fixed. Ah well, my friend really loved it so I guess that's all that matters. I think I'd like to try a bird portrait in watercolor again sometime, but take my time a little more. I had to rush this one due to the holiday.

Anywho, this is a red-tailed hawk. I used a conglomeration of pictures as reference, but I'll try and track those down to put here.
