My grandmother is a survivor of many things, the most recent being breast cancer. She was always full of life, beautiful and a woman to be reckoned with but her battle with cancer seemed to snuff some of that joie de vive and part of her was lost. This picture was taken at an event following her last batch of radiation treatments. I had been watching her all day and suddenly she burst into uncontrollable laughter and I had to grab my camera. I showed this to her later to remind her of who she is inside, regardless of what happened on the outside and she was very touched. On an important side note, I really liked this photo because you can see how protective my grandfather is.Please note that my grandmother passed away on April 13, 2007

it's been said already, many times- but this is touching. I woke up this morning grouchy and not wanting to go to work. And this image is the first thing I see, speaking of strength, love, family, fun- all those things people struggle to find in life.
this photo put me in my place, made me smile, and made me want to cry all at the same time.

Such a beautiful image. I, myself, am a breast cancer survivor of almost 6 years. I was diagnosed at age 30. Your image touched me and it reminded me of how my husband has stood by my side throughout everything. It's lovely and congrats on your DD.

I really like that photo, and its a very touching story, I've lost 3 family members to breast cancer so this makes it a lot more important to me I guess

not to be redundant but once again, you've captured personality here. it's obviously a very important picture to you. thank you for sharing it with us here. your grandfather really does look loving and protective of her. i hope they are doing well together now. i can't say exactly why, but the black and white works well here. maybe it's that it takes an unnecessary element away allowing you to focus more on their personality.

That is so awesome. I am very involved in Relay For Life, and this year I am starting my own team! Well it is going to be a student team, and it should be a lot of fun. I plan on inviting other people too, other than students. My friend Alex lost his mother to cancer the morning that Relay For Life started last year and he plans on being on the team, and our group of friends are going to have a team, along with parents and even teachers if they want to get involved. Anyway! I am babbling so I will cut this off now! Have a great day!

It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time with your eyes open. Having a camera with an eye-start has always been quite helpful, the moments happen quickly and if you have to fiddle with focus you can miss it, it also allows me the freedom to relax into the shot which again just makes it that much easier
