Description
EDIT 9/17/09This is uploaded over the other one so that I don't have two marker guides in my gallery. That would be silly.
I'll prolly post the old on on my website so that it's still accessible. I just have to set up a gallery on there.
Um. I don't know if this one looks any better than the other one, but it's certainly more comprehensive and less sleep deprived. I spent a good portion of monday night/tuesday morning coloring until my carpal tunnel kicked in and I had to stop. And compiling this only took two hours.
If there are any questions, or something you'd like me to add a section on. Drop a comment and I can easily edit the photoshop file.
In the fur texture section, there is a lighting change. Because 9AM is brighter than 1AM. The lab/great dane mix is one of my first attempts at actually texturing short fur. Normally I just...don't. eheheh.

It's so nice finding a GOOD Prisma marker tutorial! o.o Nearly everything anyone seems to use anymore are copics. *cough* But yes! I'm totally using this to help me in getting a feel for which markers to use for skin tones! ^^ Fave!

Yay!
I am seriously frightened to use Copics...I do not want to become addicted to them.
I'm glad you like this though, and I hope it helps even though I should have slept before writing it xD

I've never used Copics, I like Prisma and Chartpak.. but Chartpak is a lot wetter than Prismacolor, so it can be more difficult to work with cuz it can bleed easliy. But yeah, some can be addicting and markers ain't cheap. xDD

First thing is wow, I would never think to use sand for skintone.
Second thing is YOU COLOUR LIKE I DO YAY.
I like to use coloured pencils to give my pants texture. Like in this picture . I can't remember now what colours I used...but I used a darkish for the base, then an even darker for shadows [I think indigo and navy]. Then I kinda went through and blended with a WAY lighter colour, like...sky blue light. It really pulls out the dark blues well and dilutes them into a whiteish colour like your pants there. Then I went back and did the white coloured pencil lines and stuff to try to make some pants texture.
Poppy and crimson, I've never done that! It turned out awesome. I usually do crimson red with tuscan red shadows. Eggplant for even darker shadows.
ALMOST ALL ENERGY DRINKS TASTE LIKE GUMMY WORMS
Also, your tip on colouring over pencil is true, yes...but I like to blend my white coloured pencil with markers. I like the stuff to be pronounced, but also soft, and I hate the grainy look of pencil over the top of my markers. A lot of times, I'll use a light colour of whatever I'm colouring [like on the Snowfox pants, a light blue, usually the same one I used to drag colour out]. It makes the pencil a bit smoother and sometimes even tints it so it's not PURE white. If that makes sense.
But sometimes, the markers don't take it well and you get a residue of pencil on your marker tip. XD It discolours it a little, but doesn't affect marker performance toooo badly.
You LIKE shading TEDIOUS FUR TEXTURE? I do not. x_x I like doing it digitally, but it's sooo tedious and hard with markers.

omg. I NEED TO TRY THAT WITH JEANS.
Seriously, on that Snowfox pic they are truly perfect.
Gaugh. you are really making me want to try new techniques.
Like mad. <333
Eggplant? Murrr. I think I need to order that! I pretty much cleaned out the colors that both the marker selling stores have :C
Where do you buy markers online?
Lol. Black/White fur texture is seriously my favorite thing to do with markers...Esepcially fluffy fur. It's just...so fun.

I buy markers from cheapjoes.com. They are a bit more expensive there than like...dickblick.com, I think, but I get GREAT service at Joe's. They send me free catalogues every so often, too, it's fun.
But yah like this one time, I ordered a marker and the estimated time of arrival was before I needed it. When my box got here, one of the markers I DESPERATELY NEEDED wasn't there. It was on my order sheet, but not in the box. I wrote them a polite little email and they shipped it out really really fast and even did free rush shipping on it so it would get here in time for me to meet my deadline. It was a really great thing for them to do, so I ALWAYS highly recommend them to people.
I am glad you like my comment. :3

After that, we'll start an underground marker operation.
We will be queens of a bunker that is for marker slaves.

PrismaColor definitely rocks. I should do more with mine... I'm lazy like that. lol. Thanks for sharing your understanding though, I think this'll help some ppl that are afraid of markers. I think too many people are stuck on the way crayola markers look when coloring (which is really ugly) so they think all will be like that. They're so... wet! that it doesn't do that at all. ^.^
So yeah, nice job here.

OH GOODNESS I KNOW.
I have a decent amount of markers of mixed brands, and they're just SO expensive. Copics are even more, they're usually around $5-6 each. :[[[

Still, I only have about 10 of them. (and then I realize that that small amount alone is $50... and I cringe.) xD
BUT PRISMAS ARE STILLLL GREAT. 8D

Hmm. I think I'll make a more comprehensive version (as in when I'm not half asleep xD ) in a little bit xD
Um the dragging was just the pulling of the darker color with the light color and blending. Lol. I should be banned from keyboards when I stay up late.
<333 I should finish those...indeed!

jabberwockyjones In reply to MorgueMonster [2008-10-27 19:03:14 +0000 UTC]
Well, when I use markers I soften the area with the dark color and some blending, then I add the light and blend where the areas are too sharp.
I may be mixed up there, I use colored pencils more often!
If I did a tutorial, I dunno what it'd be on...
