Description
If you’ve read my recent journal ( [link] ) you know that I have other projects planned aside from my Control Group story arc ( [link] ). One of those is a space sci-fi fic series I’m planning to put up on [link] and the other is a web comic. And this pic features the main characters of the planned comic drawn in what I’m calling mpcp13-style Mark II, basically a simplified version of my original style (which I’m still keeping for the Control Group pics and some fan art).Anyway, as for the basic premise of this comic, have you ever noticed that there are many shows and comics about a kid (or kids) with special powers/abilities/etc. who saves the world while trying to manage their regular lives? But there seems to be a few stories out there about a kid trying to be a villain. Sure, there’s Invader Zim, but while Zim is short and childish he is technically an adult Irken.
For this, I’m planning to make a comic about a kid who seems to be a regular Mr. Nice Guy on the outside but has a supervillain (well, more of a super thief) alter ego. But to complicate things, his twin sister is also a wannabe-superhero—though he doesn’t know it—who ends up becoming sort of an arch rival to him. Also, I’m planning to poke fun at several of those superhero and supervillain stereotypes in my comic. But first, I wanna know what you guys think. I’m also open for some suggestions for a title since I haven’t thought one up yet.
Characters (left-to-right):
Linda “Lin” Valen – A 14-year-old daughter of the owner of a powerful corporation. When she was young, an accident severed the spinal motor nerves for her legs and paralyzed them, though she still has some sensation in them. She now moves around via a high-tech wheel chair that was custom built for her. (It pays to have a father who owns a powerful technology company)
While she is extremely intelligent and more than capable, the accident has left her bitter and hostile. She constantly emotes disapproval and feels compelled to correct the mistakes others make—via insults and public humiliation. It’s no surprise that she only has one friend, well, actually it’s a surprise she even has a friend. Even then, the said friend is more of a “business partner”. He’s the super thief while she provides technological and financial support.
Basilio “Bas” Galawgaw (“Sio” to his family) – A Filipino boy who moved to the US with his family over two years ago. Outwardly, he is happy, congenial, and rarely displays an abrasive personality. A regular Mr. Nice Guy that’s easy to get along with. But unknown to most of the people who know him, even his family, there’s another side to Basilio that’s decidedly less than nice.
This side comes out only when Basilio and his best friend, Linda, start putting their heads together. What most people don’t know is that the two of them have been secretly salting away and stealing technology and cash. Using stolen robotics and military technology military technology, Linda creates a robotic, somewhat roach-shaped battle suit and high-tech weapons for Basilio. Using this suit, he assumes the identity of Roach and becomes a super villain—though he prefers the term super thief—in his strangely superhero/supervillain-filled town. He quickly makes a name for him self and becomes the most wanted supervillain in his town, much to his delight.
Despite this, he is not evil per se. He only becomes a super villain for the kicks, the reputation, and the release it provides. In fact, some of his Mr. Nice Guy persona isn’t all an act. Though, that doesn’t stop him from becoming the insulting, obnoxious, and cocky Roach.
Vivian “Viv” Galawgaw (“Viva” to her family) – Basilio’s twin sister. Carefree and lighthearted, Vivian is an easy person to like. And unlike her brother, she does not have a super villain alter ego. On the other hand, her desire to help people makes her want to become a super hero.
Her wish is granted when she discovers that Mr. Hayes, the janitor of her school, is a former military scientist who faked his death so that his knowledge wouldn’t be used by the military. He has managed to make powerful high-tech weapons out of junk in the hope of being a superhero himself. But since he is too old she gives them to Vivian and her best friend. Both of whom assume the role of vigilante superheroes VG and Len-T. (I know, corny names, but that’s the point!)
As things would have it, during her first time as a superhero she runs into her brother. She doesn’t know who he is and vice versa. And despite the bargain-basement weapons she and her best friend/sidekick use, she manages to beat her twin brother. This, ironically, makes her his arch nemesis.
Lenard “Lenny” Trent – Viv’s extremely neurotic best friend, he very is insecure and scared of many things. He prefers to avoid conflict and would be perfectly happy to live a safe, boring life. But much to his chagrin, Viv drags him along as her sidekick when she becomes a superhero.
Of course, the very idea of fighting dangerous villains nearly gives him a heart attack. He initially refuses to become Viv’s sidekick as vehemently as he could and tried to convince her not to become a superhero. But when it was apparent to him that there was no changing Viv’s mind, he agrees to become her sidekick. If only, to prevent her impulsive over-eagerness from getting her killed.

Thanks! I'm currently making a sort of character chart for some of the main and minor characters so I get a feel for them before I statr the comic itself

cool characters, it's great how you thought out their personailtes and their life situations. and you're right, the whole "super-powered kid" thing really has been overdone over the years, it would be great to see a comic that pokes fun at that.

I like the variety of expressions on all the characters, hinting at their individual personalities. You also did a good job handling their clothes; they have simple, modern shirts and pants, but they are very colourful and each one is a different style from the others.

Me like! Awesome! Again, I'll have to offer voice nominees:
• Linda - Role screams for Francesca Marie Smith (Helga).
• Basilio - Quite open. Jason Marsden (Chester), Billy West (Fry), or Gary Leroi Gray (Sammy) seem good candidates, but the Roach suit--which allows him to articulate an alternate persona--could have a voice modulator read by Lombardo Boyar (Lars) or Christopher Lloyd (Hacker).
• Vivian - Kathleen Herles (Dora) in her normal voice.
• Lenard - Alex Linz (Arnold) seems likely.
• Mr. Hayes - Peter Fernandez (Speed Racer) would be a good surprise cameo.
