Description
Quite near the start of development on Heart of the Swarm, *PhillGonzo requested a new concept of the Torrasque hero ultralisk from original SC, since while there was technically a massive Torrasque-named ultralisk in Liberty it had only been a scaled up version of the regular unit, and we thought it might be worth giving a bit of extra love.Unfortunately this one never got very far into production, but I enjoyed at least creating this piece - trying to play up the original ultralisk look from in-game, the old manual illustrations, and that brief appearance in the SC:Ghost cinematic trailer.
*updated, colour was super desaturated for some reason

Terran marine: "Uh, sir, I think we're gonna need a BIG can o' bug spray for this one!"
Or, "In Soviet Char, Bug swats YOU!"
I didn't see the zergling down by his feet at first... then I realized just how big these nasties are! Man, I thought they were scary in SC1 whenever my poor buildings were on the receiving end of their attacks... Then I see this, and YIKES! ย
I would so hate to see this guy take on the Swamp Strider from Alien Planet (or the original art book that inspired it, Expedition by Wayne Barlowe). Talk about clash of the titans!

This looks like one of the creatures from "The Dark Crystal", from Jim Henson.

No, (unless the D+D ones do?) they're just fancy ultralisks.

I love your zerg pics. They look like they would be so much fun to sculpt in zbrush.

My good Sir Jack, you need to tell PhillGonzo to model a Brood War Ultralisk. It would be amazing.

Did you know that the Torrasque was originally from D&D? Yeah, he had the same general layout:
Big as shit;
Ugly as shit;
Angry as shit;
Covered in blades;
Lots of teeth;
kinda hard to kill;
etc.

Absolutely beautiful. It's BS that the giant Omegalisk's in In Utter Darkness and Belly of the Beast are just larger Ultralisks, and they used up the awesome name "Omegalisk" on a rescale. They should have looked like this or the concept art with the tentacles.

You know... when Star Craft first came out, we all thought Ultralisks were tripedal... bad resolution on the screen I guess.
Dude... I wish I could do what you do, this is so awesome!

Damn I remember that level. Make a wall of bunkers!!!! Hold the line!!!
I would have loved to see an updated unique Torrasque! I enjoyed it more when Ultralisks used to not really have discernable face.

I think that's partly to do with the old sprites just not being high res enough, though - the other art of ultralisks from BW all had eyes and faces, it just never showed up in-game.

I'm seriously your number one fan girl. Whoever you work for made the best call in talent hiring history. the thing about your stuff that astounds me is the fact that in every step of the process it always looks impressive. A lot of artists here can get a highly rendered/polished look, but if you really pay attention there are major anatomical and gesture problems with their stuff.
You however, put everyone on here to shame. I need your autograph.
