Description TheOctopusMan asked:
Has lesper ever tried singing professionally?

Answer:
Lilitu ('Harpies' colloquialy) are not well thought of, and rightly so. Though both their singing voices and their dancing is perhaps the finest known, it is invariably used as the Lilitu's means of entrancing its victems before robbing/devouring/raping/wildcard ensues.

Lesper, having broken off from her flock for a great many reasons, perhaps most importantly of which is her refusal to kill and devour travellers would find it impossible to have a professional career.

As no means of recording exist, the performances would all have to be live, and no village or town would let a Lilitu within in its walls merely on the assurance that it was there to perform and would behave itself ( and its not reall like she would either, she has sticky talons you may have noticed)

Also against her is the way she prefers to sing.

The unique vocal chords of th Lilitu give them perfectly lovely, and quite seductive natural singing and speaking voices, even without them tweaking the harmonics to actually make the song hypnotic.

However, Lesper, much like Bok, has opted for a more aggressive forceful approach to singing songs. Which is just not catching on in polite society.

This doesnt tend to concern them, though. They sing because they love to sing.

Indeed, one of the reasons Lesper was forsook her flock was because she hated the idea of beautiful music being a weapon. She's oddly a purist in that regard.

We will learn more about this facinating species as time goes on. Next question?

1. Compare this Lesper's look to this [link] Lesper's look;
2. Smile (up to you to know why);
3. Think Lesper is prettier now;
4. Rinse;
5. Repeat.

Gotta love harpies.

Kinda explains why Lesper is willing to help out Bok too. Common interests? Kinda makes me wonder what the "worst" thing Bok's ever befriended. Aside from my own fangirl crush of course (though I'm a pretty tame beastie compared to even some dryads).

That would depend on who you ask. Many things Bok has befriended are the few good members of a largely hostile race (Pajaks, Ophiachans, Golems) but Lesper is quite possibly one of two harpies on the entire PLANET that isn't a vicious, selfish murderer. By direct comparison the rest of their races and for how they are viewed by society, Lesper would be the 'worst' thing Bok has befriended. Harpies are suffienty monsterous that other, completely irredeemable races (Rusalkas, for example) will freely associate with them.

Poor Lesper must be lonely then, if she doesn't associate with her own kind, and no one else is really gonna give her a chance.

given that these two appear to be the only rock'n'rollers in their entire universe, how do they know joan jett and cheap trick songs?
in the bokverse has bok actually written them? or are they a songwriting team?
this piece seriously rocks, btw. i think i want the t-shirt.

The style of singing Bok adheres to is an amalgamation of the way various beasts and monstors he has associated sing. It is rarely heard by polite society and when it is, it is disliked. Lesper learned it from Bok as they met when she was attracted to the bizzare way he choose to sing.

Within this world, Bok wrote "Reach Out" by Cheap trick and possibly a few songs that Lesper sings as well, although they more than likely collaborate.

Much like birds, Harpies instinctivly know a LOT of songs from birth and from hearing other harpies sing them. Lesper will often take a well known Harpy song "Lets fall in love" and then sing it her own way.

Love Lesper, but why Bok is slightly larger? I mean has he finally hit that legendary ork growth spurt or something?

He's just wearing 3 layers of clothing and has shoulder pads. Harpies are generally pretty whispy, also.

(since someone's gotta ask)

DO THEY HAVE CLOACAS

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Culexus In reply to MechaFurre [2012-10-19 03:15:37 +0000 UTC]

Oddly enough, their body structure is actually a lot like those of the three main humanoid species (orcs, elves, humans) except with rough skin (like you'd see on a birds legs) in some places. So they do not, in fact have cloacas.

More perplexing, is the fact that they have developed mammaries, despite being an egg laying species that does not suckle their young, and are in fact cold blooded also.

Leading experts have put foward the theory that the harpy's bodily and anatomical similarities to humans, despite the biological lack of necessity for it, is a characteristic they developed to be more enticing to the humanoid species - their primary prey.

That reminds me, by the way. The RE voice cast is Rachel Ward, Hynden Walch, and Terri Brosius, while the VH cast is Stephen Fry, Kathleen Zuelch, Grey DeLisle, Peter Cullen, and Jackie Earle Haley. What would be the Bokverse cast?

Bok Tyneside....Jeff Lupetin
Wissil......Glynnis Talken Campbell
Noonan Forbes.........John Patrick Lowrie
Lesper.......Olivia Olson
Grigori Steerpike......John Armstrong
Viktor Diolen........Chris McCulloch
Judinous Valkova.....Judy Greer

I think that'd work out. There'd be different people doing the singing, I think. WHoever's appropriate.

If that is indeed some Joan Jett, good choice of song, Culexus! Very fitting for those two as far as I can tell, especially Lesper.

(I don't have a question, just wanted to lodge that thumbs-up there)
