Description
Fleshing out the Elves in Bok the Neutral as a race. Not figters, but I can imagine them wearing armored or srength enhancing gauntlets selectively to help them with science or exploration.Related content

So what kind of scientificy doo-hickeys offset the additional weight of the prosthetic itself? By the way even with such an awesome setting I still think you need Dwarven Civil Engineers.

The runic wood panels on the arm are infused with a levetation spell, calculated to the right level, allowing the gaultlet to be effectively weightless. This probably indicates that this particular gaultlet is actually elvish/human collaborative technology. Unsuprising as they have decent race relations.
The dwarves in this universe are not engineers I'm afraid. They are more like a rumour. A bed time story.

Not that kind of bed time story. More the "you be good or the dwarves will come out of their burrows to eat you alive" type story. They are milky eyed cannibal beserkers.

Yeah, the standard interpretation of Dwarves being squat bearded folk is pretty played out in fantasy; I'm a big fun of the Dwarven personality stereotype of being grumpy and stubborn but their obsession with impractical beards was a bit hard for me to grasp onto.
Me and a couple of buddies played a D&D campaign where everyone voted on what each player Race/Class they should play based on the players personality/occupation. All of my buddies voted that I was a Dwarven Scout/Ranger, so I modified my own Dwarven race, basically forest dwarves that replaced their stonecunning with trapsetting and a couple of other modifications... Basically they were taller and thinner than regular dwarves, often being mistaken for athletic human teenagers from faraway until you got close enough to notice their persistent five O'clock shadows... the lack of impractical beards was a unique cultural characteristic of Forest Dwarves... and somehow I managed to talk my GM into allowing firearms as a martial weapon for them instead of the Urgosh, which was no small feat seeing as the GM was vehemently opposed to guns in his D&D games

Strange for someone essentially just compared to a dwarf, especially since the people I passed my opposed roll against were the ones who declared that to be my D&D race.

Wait. Am I understanding this correctly? Bok the Neutral is set in a 'verse that you've basically made up on your own?

I should be, I'm making a world myself for a story I'm writing (its pretty much just notes about one nation of humans right now)

What are the orks like? From what I can tell they're quite orky but, alot of them are getting into science and other fields of study.

Scientists, but of things the elves would deem impractical. Elves invented spectacles, Orks invented the guitar. Orks are brewers and artists, at touch with nature. They are disinclined to fight but are proud, fit and especially in the case of the feamles, quite strong. This, combined with their love of hunting, clambering and wrestling makes them effective soldiers.

Did they invent the electric guitar or just the normal version?

Mr-Culexus In reply to TheOctopusMan [2013-09-30 18:39:57 +0000 UTC]
Just the normal. Curiously, Bok has discovered that replacing the normal cord with Pajak silk threads of the same size produce an electric guitar sound. No one in the villages he's visited approves of this sound though.
The elves do create music but it tends to be more structured and scientific often with a clear message or almost spoken. The elves have even invented a couple of instruments - the keyboard and the theremin.
Ork music tends to be pleasent, if a little hippyish at times. Loving spoonful, Steve Miller Band, Some beatles stuff. Elves tend to be more like Devo or Iconapop

Thats pretty cool. Is the era Bok and company live in experiencing a sort of Renaissance with new sciences and magic being discovered?

Not quite. That was maybe 150-200 years ago.
but it still going through some amazing developments. They are trying to develop more efficiant transports for the common man, and there is even talk of flying machines. The biggest development recently is the Aptrgangr process allowingsentient beings to be time locked indefinatley after death with their bodies and minds joined and intact. A form of preserved, sentient zombie.

It is sooo good to see you update again chum. I've always enjoyed seeing your works for they do oft entertain me and put a smile upon mine countenance even on the most sour of days.
....plus i just enjoy typing these comments out, i rarely get the chance to do so especially since my college professors often don't appreciate it

I think the mixture of both is fine.
The fact that I know about that flash animation is a little odd, but then I am fantastically curious about stuff on the internet and will often investigate tings even when they're not my cup of tea. Along the way , I just happened to find a voice that sounded about right to me and the co-creator of diolen.
College is rough, huh?
I'm glad my work manages to cheer you up.
