Description Both a pioneer in the field of dryad anthropological studies and one of the first men elected for the "excellens vacuus nex" project on account of his dying quite early into what was viewed unanimously as a promising career. L.B Harmless remains to this day a widely respected popular figure.

Many of the Harmless' discoveries have been called into question, usually by embittered or bigoted competitors in his field, who resent Harmless' ability to venture where they may not without fear of death. They claim that, Harmless, fully aware that no one will be able to disprove hid findings as they are on the bottom of the ocean, or in a cave full of flesh eating living ceramic that detects body heat is merely making up his current discoveries to sell books.

L.B has always been a gentleman in the face of such accusations, while at the same time speaking openly about the continued campaigning that must be done to remove the prejudice and stereotype from the reanimated.

Current whereabouts unknown, but most respected academics agree he's off somewhere being brilliant.

So how undead is he, exactly? I can see the bones on his forearms, yet his cheeks appear to be whole and his ears still exist. Is it more of a selective thing, like, through magic and its ilk he can preserve parts he deems most necessary?

Also, that Dryad is like ridiculously happy.

Harmless, having a very dangerous line of work was kept under close observation, and had signed the necessary paperwork to be part of the Aptrgangr program, should the worst happen. As such, here was not much time between his death, which did little actual damage to his body, and his rebirth.

The great thing about that aesthetic of period dress is that other gentlepersons of breeding often smell worse than him because they haven't yet realized the difference between an intoxicating perfume and... an intoxicating perfume.

I wonder, if a Nomad Dryad hook into an undead, what happens? Undead decomposes slowly into soil? Drained of unlife, making the dryad undead? Or would it simply take no interest in a walking corpse?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Culexus In reply to Loreic [2010-12-13 04:46:19 +0000 UTC]

The Harmless Dryad shows little to know interest in things that neither have a heat signature, or produce carbon dioxide, but will still be attracted to any movement, albeit with less haste than they would a living creature. It will eventually latch onto even undead targets thhough it will eventually leave to do other things such as feed.

The Harmless' are a well established family of good breeding, and were amongst the earliest settlers of Gamkia. Whether their name was different, and generations ago, they changed it for the reason you specify, remains unknown.

Words escape me Mr-Culexus.

Truly. That is one dapper Explorer.

I like that 'Harmless Dryad' looking over his shoulder, is that one its fruit he is holding? Well, anything in the name of exploration and science.

Of course one has to sell books, but can one truly just make up what is within a cave full of flesh eating ceramic thermal detecting monsters and still keep the dignity required for one to continue the pursuit of the Gentlemanly Explorer?

Probobly. But I would like to believe L.B Harmless tells only what he sees.

I bet he feels warm and fuzzy about naming a dangerous Dryad the Harmless Dryad.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Culexus In reply to Cylexus [2010-12-14 14:19:42 +0000 UTC]

As an Undead or "Aptrgangr" as they prefer to be known, Harmless recieves no adverse affect from the Dryad or its fruit, and merely finds it sweet ( at least, he thinks he does ). No one is sure whether Harmless makes up his stories or not.

Curiously, following his disappearence another undead man of science has had the mantel passed to him. Though far less of an explorer, and only able to work part time, his work, as a man of science and a gentlemen will hopefully be held in similar regard by the public.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cylexus In reply to Mr-Culexus [2010-12-14 23:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes. Well that is the first Time I have heard of the name, Aptrgangr - but I digress.

This undead man of science, he wouldn't perchance be one of the dastardly duo testing out their Alchemist's Fire Cannon on the Hapless Bok would it?
