Description Daneel Calliban, while having a fondness for more astringent beverages will always bookend an evenings libations with a dark roasted malty beer, having a particular fondness for Lacustrian Porter.

*************

Gotta say, I am with Calliban on this one. I mean, a BUNCH of people I know and respect are all about the stout float and tend to think that if it's your booze you can do what you like with it (if you put Coke in Oban double distilled, I will not understand but I will also not make a face at you. I'll make a mental note that you love wasting money and will act accordingly.) I can only assume that the stout spider is just not for me.

Calliban is pretty well mannered. Just in general. I oughtta take notes.

I have gotten legitimately pissed off at a poor liquor store clerk because they kept Guiness in the cooler... Had leave my beer out to warm up before I drank any.

I've bartended at times and where I did so I was aloud free drinks while behind the bar as long as I didn't get sloppy, and I'd always have a pint of Guiness going because I'd often forget it for half hours at a time when busy, but it was perfectly fine or better warm, unlike anything else in the taps.

My approach to liquor: Why waste the money on literal poison?Β  Of course I was born with a boatload of health problems, I don't need to add liver problems to that.Β  Besides, everyone's taste buds are different and their tastes are different.Β  The stodgy old upper class way of drinking something is usually less about flavour and more about being part of the 'in' crowd.Β  Anything that feels like a ritual IS.Β  The Imperium being the Imperium, I'm amazed they don't have a heresy rule about drinking your liquors in any way other than on fire..... you or the liquor, whichever!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VoiceofRob In reply to Daggerhammer [2017-10-04 21:11:19 +0000 UTC]

Because some drinks have interesting and unique flavors that are quite delicious if you develop the taste for them.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daggerhammer In reply to VoiceofRob [2017-10-04 22:23:08 +0000 UTC]

Anything I have to 'develop a taste for' is simply something that I am wasting my time and money on, especially when it is best described as 'flammable poison'.

VoiceofRob In reply to Daggerhammer [2017-10-05 16:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Daggerhammer In reply to VoiceofRob [2017-10-05 20:06:48 +0000 UTC]

I said 'especially when', as in an additive statement of included qualities.Β  Which alcohol is.Β  And good for you on the broccoli, if you're going to torture yourself into submission it should probably be for something that is good for you!Β  I can't eat it, it interferes with several of my medications.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VoiceofRob In reply to Daggerhammer [2017-10-05 20:40:51 +0000 UTC]

"Torturing yourself into submission" has got to be the strangest euphemism for "self improvement" I have ever heard.
But I love it.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daggerhammer In reply to VoiceofRob [2017-10-05 20:50:12 +0000 UTC]

When it comes to developing a taste for alcohol, which is toxic, it's apt.Β  In my general experience, people don't 'develop a taste for' healthy things.Β  They develop a taste for liquor, drugs, cigarettes, overly spicy foods, and salt, most commonly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VoiceofRob In reply to Daggerhammer [2017-10-05 22:02:08 +0000 UTC]

Salt and sugar are things the body naturally craves because they used to be rare, now our tech has surpassed our caveman instincts and we have all the sugar we could ever want and need.Β

Certain alcohols you have to develop a taste for because I honestly don't think they can be appreciated until you have a baseline for what makes a good drink until you have sampled several.Β

Cigarettes are just plain addictive due to the several dozen chemicals they lace them with.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daggerhammer In reply to VoiceofRob [2017-10-05 22:16:03 +0000 UTC]

The fact you have to be told what a good drink is to make a 'baseline' indicates the simple and destructive societal habit of 'caving in to peer pressure'.Β  Especially when in most cases people who drink strong alcohols can't differentiate them, as evidenced by recent outing of wine tasters being unable to tell apart reds from whites with food colouring in them, or whiskey aficionados being completely stumped when presented with several differently aged whiskeys.Β  News flash: there is no 'baseline of a good drink', there's 'a bunck of rich twits shoving their opinions on people'.Β  If you have to learn what is good without your brain simply informing you that you enjoy it, you are a social robot and seriously need to work on forming your own opinions.Β  Not that you'll have taste buds left to do so with drinks.

I'm addressing a reader in general.Β  Although I do find your insistence that there's some sort of magic universality to alcohol of all things to be grating and I have every suspicion the statements DO apply to you, and the comments were in conversation WITH you.Β  However if they didn't apply to you I doubt you'd have taken them at all personally since, simply put, they would be wrong and you would certainly have no problem saying so, I dare suppose given your persona.
