Description Nothing says "I Love You" like a Russian Kill-Bot. Unless it's THREE Russian Kill-Bots.

This is what I called on my site the "season finale" of 6-Commando, and now I go off to my artist's garret (where it's bloody eighty-five degrees because my downstairs neighbors don't know that heat rises) and take on the task of revising, editing, and generally trying to make the whole thing better. The associated accoutrements and generally offensive undertaking of artistic and literary revision. But I'm going to do it. 'Cause I'm a big doofus. And I didn't know how to draw comics 'til I started on this one. Oh, well.

Please read the whole thing on my website! It's all there - and there's more good stuff besides. [link]

Looks cool! But it's hard to make out the overall shape of the Mech!

They're so cute! Especially the tiny front arms clasped together like "Oh boy!"

See, I think they're cute, too! But that's me and my "robots are cute" thing.

You're not the only one with that thought. Boston Dynamics is a perfect example of real-world adorbz robots:

LittleDog is the best ever. I'd take him everywhere.

Freaking most amazing, most realistic movements I've ever seen. I'm almost convinced they just shoved that cord up some shark's ass: [link]

Looks sick! I like how u drew thee legs and the feet and how the Russia Mech is gripping his 2 hands on the brick rock areas. Nicely done. }: )

The three-finger hand design is a personal favorite of mine. Thanks, man!

Forgive me, I only know a little Russian, but I think you're asking why they're saying "Yankee Hotel Bravo?" It's part of the story. I know there are no NATO phonetics in Russian, but this was the best equivalent I could make. The Robots don't speak English, you see - no point in teaching a Russian war-bot to speak English, I figured.

Oh, and by the way, I responded to two of your other comments and then they disappeared for some reason. No idea why.

Nice work, i like it. But russian military don't use call signals like "bravo","hotel' etc.

Very true. In the story, however, "Yankee Hotel Bravo" has significance to the plot.

Interesting design. You come up with it?

MrAverage In reply to LordCastigator [2012-05-01 02:05:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes, though with a lot of inspiration from a lot of places. The second pair of arms and the shock absorbers on the feet came to me from looking at this: [link]

But overall I designed it to look like the powered armor the Russians wear in the rest of the comic, as though derived from the same technology.

Rest of the comic? *Follows link* Damn, I lost track of this one ages ago when I updated my browser only to loose all bookmarks. I got as far as when Mike shows up to get the girl. Good to see it's still going. And it's yours? You have my respect...

Random thought, I'll admit I am curious about how such AI tech...evolved, for lack of better wording. Did they use AIs to back human operators/crews, as in humans were in control with the AI helping out, equal partnerships between the 2 or were AIs put into machines originally designed for humans?

All I know now is catching up on this, combined with several Mecha series going through my mind, has given my the mental image of piloting a Mech with AI co-pilot...

There are computers in lots of military hardware, but they're more primitive and aren't interconnected like in our world, not for any reason other than that nobody really thought of it. Their development line was towards autonomy, not interconnection. In only a few areas, the 6-Commando world has advanced beyond ours; in most others they're more primitive, and even backward. Gel computers, for example, like Mike's AI "brain" are a good example - a major advance that has only found a single application, as can happen in the singleminded atmosphere of continuous warfare. "Intelligent" computers, the advanced AI-driven machines, are all large, like Mike, mainframe computers called Prime Functions, and autonomous fleet units like ballistic missile submarines and defense cruisers, and the controlling systems in powered armor. The rest of it is still fairly low-tech, and civilian technology is really underdeveloped, compared to our world.

The evolution of AI was as a means of controlling larger and more complicated conventional vehicles. AI units like Rumblers and the Russian robots are a fairly recent innovation, mainly designed to replace lots of smaller units that would require more manpower than is available.
