I've been busy job searching and finishing up my requirements for school. As well as watching Fullmetal Alchemist (got the whole DVD set for my birthday). So I haven't been drawing as much as I desire.

However, I do put some time into sketching something. My focus right now has been drawing hands, to get a better understanding of the form and shape. As well as learning the functions. Little by little.

This is my second page of study, a little better than the first page. My only critique I could give to myself, after someone mentioning it to me, is that I need to draw on the inside more. The hand in the bottom left hand corner is pretty much an example of what I mean. I need to do more traveling and exploring the insides, rather than starting from the outside of the form and drawing the insides.

And trust me, this is only the start for these sketches. I need to put more time into exploring them, locate the different bone and muscle structure. I hope to at least attempt a hand a day, if not the desired five hands a day. The more I do, the better I'll get. That's for sure.

My favourite is the holding hands. That one is especially well-executed!

Hands are so tricky. They form all these wierd shapes.

My favourite is the holding hands. That one is especially well-executed! Thanks! That one was interesting to work on...and you know, I need to go back to this one and work on it some more. Get a better understanding of it, as well as trying out other different positions of holding hands.

Hands are so tricky. They form all these wierd shapes. They are! What I definitely am going to do is learn its' bone structure, in relationship with the forearm. Hopefully that'll give me a better understanding on how to do hands.

Thank you! Now I just need to practice more hands. It's been a while since I have, instead of I have been drawing muscles...which is not bad. Better than drawing nothing...although I wonder what nothing looks like on paper.

You've come a long way in your drawing abilities lately

Those are some really great hand studies! Thanks! Now I need to do more! LOL It's been a while since I have, and I will get back into it. I've been enjoying muscles for the moment, for the arm and stomach area. I definitely need to push my abilities on drawing hands so I can get better.

You've come a long way in your drawing abilities lately I have. Although these drawings are based off references, at least I'm learning how to draw certain areas of the body. Hopefully within a year or so I'll be able to draw a human figure realistically from memory. Maybe at least 60%.

I've been busy job searching and finishing up my requirements for school.

Any luck on any of that? Cuz finding one is really tough.

As well as watching Fullmetal Alchemist (got the whole DVD set for my birthday).

Where's Contro!? Who are you!? What have you done with him!?

You probably collected it because both you and Ed are short.

I didn't think you were even one to even collect an anime series. I wouldn't say FMA is the best anime series around, but I would like to say that it is absolutely the best English Dub ever. FUNimation really did outdo themselves working on this series.

As for the drawing. You're doing an incredibly awesome job.

One thing that I'm hoping you can help answer for me is, what exactly do you mean when it comes to drawing from the inside? Usually when I practice drawing hands, I just the usual line buildup, and that's it. Can you explain this to me?

Any luck on any of that? Cuz finding one is really tough. Nah not really...I talk a little bit of that in my journal.

As for the drawing. You're doing an incredibly awesome job. Thank you!

I didn't think you were even one to even collect an anime series. And why is that?

One thing that I'm hoping you can help answer for me is, what exactly do you mean when it comes to drawing from the inside? It means just that, drawing inside to get to one point to the next...rather than just doing the outline all the time. Feeling after the volume and 3D shape of the figure, so you can keep the figure from looking flat. That's the goal.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i did a page full of hands a while ago i should find it and upload it, but there not as good as yours to be honest, there more anime type

mrcontroversial In reply to JAGD1 [2008-07-02 15:38:41 +0000 UTC]

but there not as good as yours to be honest, there more anime type Well, the thing to remember is to practice hands no matter what. Finding the relationships of the fingers and the palms, as well as understanding how each member moves. If you can do that, then you can do it in any style. If nothing else, upload them for history and reference...so that you can compare and contrast as you continue to practice and study.

I apologize for not replying to your message sooner, there have been some things in my life I needed to take care of. Thanks for commenting, I hope you continue to practice in drawing.

Yeah, these are referenced hands though. I'm not there where I can draw them from memory just yet. But I'll get there, after I do it 1000 more times. LOL

BTW, how have you been doing? You been doing alright in your studies and life?

That's good you were able to visit your friends though. And yeah, understandable. I think after going through a semester, with the heavy load and everything, just gotta take the time to slow down.

your surprise that I dont? A bookstore is an artist's paradise for research, discovery, inspiration, and resources. So yeah, I can say I am. Just because you may not stay there to read a book, doesn't mean you might find other subjects for observation.

Increase your observation bro, it's skill so taken lightly these days.

aw man i SUCK at drawing hands *envy envy* Oh, I sucked at lips when I was a teenager, believe me. I couldn't draw them to save my life.

But, down the road, I sucked in the difficulty, and attempted to practice. Practice, practice, practice, until I was able to start drawing lips to my liking. And that's something you'll have to do: Just practice a lot of hands (and I mean a lot), and I'm sure you'll get better at them as well.

You can either look at pictures of people (maybe your friends, family, celebrities) and see how hands are interacting with objects and with each other. Capture the shapes, memorize the poses, and see what happens.

Also: [link] I know this can help you as well. I believe =alexds1 did a wonderful job explaining how to draw hands. Good luck!
