xD Well, I've never actually been into it. Mostly because the anime art I see drawn by people is just the characters... Lately I've been watching some anime, and even though there's very little detail on the actual characters they make up for it with beautiful backgrounds, so I've been missing out on something there. I'm really getting into it.
I think I was watching... Midori no Hibi? I'm not sure, but LOL. . _.; The storylines are hilarious!

Excellent tutorial! One that actually explains "why" certain tools are used. Definitely one of the best I've run across, kudos!
I only have one question: when doing highlights, you use a lighter colour. What sort of layer do you use for the lighter colours? When I use a Multiply layer any colour that I use becomes darker or barely visible.

Well, a 'multiply' layer means that any colour that is lighter than the colour beneath won't show.. Unfortunately when I made this tutorial, I went all whack with the layers because I was fairly new.
The best way to do this would be to put your lineart on TOP of all your other layers, and have it set to multiply, that way only the black lineart itself will show up, and have all your other layers set to 'normal'.

i just can't understant how to select the areas you want to colour,
you say, if you don't have a tablet (like me) to use the lasso tool, but then the areas are all crappy and stuff;
when i use the wagic wand, the lineart gets all lift and disappears a bit
i really don't understand how to properly select areas..
grr, i get so frustrated about this program
i just dont understand how you actually select the areas u want to colour, and how you keep the lineart so clean?
plz help me, i really want to figure this out, i have been trying to for ages..
thx!

You make a new layer, a multiply layer. Then you use the lasso tool to select the area you want to color. Because you've made a new layer, you can see your lineart underneath. You're able to select it, and then fill it in on the layer above.
If, like I think you might be, you're using the magic wand tool.. Select the lineart on the lineart layer, then fill the color in on a NEW layer. Always use a new layer for new colors! That way it shouldn't change your lineart at all!
If you're having some problems, feel free to send me a screenshot of what you're doing and I'll try and help a little bit clearer..

Photoshop is the only programme I use, except for the odd MS Paint drawings. Which reminds me to make one for Paint!
