Description Long Range

A Black-Headed Heron shot in inclement weather (surprise, surprise - I'm tired of the rain now), with my new toy. What a fantastic lens!

I'm glad she does! Will have to get here interested in bird watching instead of just chasing the Hadeda's!

Wow, this is stunning. Have to agree with "escapism" well worth of National Geographic, or even Africa Geographic. Don't complain of the rain, Queensland in Oz has had some falls of up to 500mm cutting roads and bridges and severe flooding.

Beautifully shot! I love herons when they fly. This picture is perfectly sharp and crisp, and the colors all look very nice together

well worth the hernia the 600mm lens will give you

Thanks Kevin. Actually I'm convinced that the 400mm f/2.8 that I have is a little heavier than the 600mm so am used to hefting these things around.
The Wimberly certainly helps ease of use though.

Now if the weather would just clear up. Then again, living in South Africa I guess I'm not allowed to complain too much.

Impressive. It's like you caught this guy in mid squawk, like a movie put on pause. The sharpness and detail here are impressive even if an extender was used - 840mm, crazy, hehe! You should send your photos to National Geographic, they certainly are fitting of their genre and style.
