I found this SUPER helpful! I never thought of doing it that way. As a beginner in semi-realism, this has helped me a lot. I thought you should know how i much i appreciate it

when i create a new fill layer, i can't edit it using curves/levels unless i merge it with a normal layer D: why's that?

You don't adjust it in levels. You edit the entire layer with the opacity control in the layer window. You can't adjust mask layers with levels. I'm not sure for the technical reason why, but that's just how it is. *shrug*

Wonderful tutorial, I've used it here, partially. The idea of using greyscale first is just genius btw, it helps SO much.

I've been using your technique here as an alternative to the styles I usually use, and I have to say, it has been showing me some interesting mistakes and other things about the way I usually paint. This is a fun and thorough method, I think!
Your picture is gorgeous, as always. Mine end up looking a little less... clean, than yours, I think, when I use this method. More blurry, maybe? I think it's that my refining needs work, or my dpi isn't high enough. Anyway, yours is so striking, it's a little hard to match, haha. XD

wait you are using the texture in overlay mode?(I first need to figure out which mode overlay is but I think I have a guess which one it is)
Do you always make the greyscale pic before the coloration or does that depend?

It really just depends. I don't always do it, but I find it really helps sort our your values when you're just starting out.

I suspect I'll find this useful sometime in the future. I'm filing it away for reference.

I think it's interesting how you seem to color on top of the line art... very cool! Will have to try this out sometime. Thanks for the tutorial!

I have not gotten to the bleeding fingers stage yet. That must be where I am doing it wrong
Thanks for the tutorial! Definitely going to try some of this on my next pic...

I know it's hard work to get at the same level you're at, but.... you make it looks so easy! /envy
This tutorial will definitely help, though. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

This is wonderful! I love seeing how artists do their thing. It helps a lot to see how the process works, and gives me some ideas when I'm doing my own thing. Definitely saving this somewhere!
