You are a genius! I bet more ppl use this tech when they make a painting, but your explination is simple yetΒ thorough. I had an "AHAAAA"-experience, mostly because I never use color, maybe
But it's a really good tutorial!

I love this tutorial. I love your work!! How did you learn about anatomy? Was it pure observance and practice?
So beautiful!

Flipping it is always what foils my process, so I need to learn to work around that! Lovely tutorial, definitely took some notes! o:

I must say the flipping idea is pretty genius.
I have to try it sometime; my drawing always come out supersuper lopsided and I hate it. I'm guessing it helps with developing the anatomy too

My photoshop only registers pen pressure for one thing; line width. Do you know how to set it to opacity as well, or does that have to be manual?
...
Of course, it could be because I'm working with outdated!Photoshop, but I'm just wondering if there's an option to refine tablet capabilities in Photoshop somewhere.

yes. before anything, check OTHER DYNAMICS in the brushes tab. You can do this with any brush in photoshop.

You may possibly not be able to do this with any Photoshop.

I FIGURED OUT how to changed it
I know. Long time, but my friend has elements and I just figured out how to change it. Under the brush icon, there are several bubbles you can click on - instead of line, click opacity. This should make your brush pressure sensitive.

I had to take a good look for a while. I'm late, too.
I know what you're talking about, since I've seen it on other Photoshop programs. The one on my desktop computer, however, doesn't have that option. It's REALLY old. The alternative I found was to set the fade level, which DOES let itself be affected by pen pressure. I have to work on it, though, because the result looks really ugly for some reason.
Thanks for getting back to me after forever. I appreciate it, even though the advice didn't work.

Urgh...I hate doing thumbnails. Lol! I kind of begin to see the point of them the more classes I take, but they still agitate me sometimes.

I don't much like them either, but they are good for big projects or commissions. It's something to present the client with. In fact, I have to do this for my job a lot, so I'm going to have to get used to the idea. LoL.

I kind of bend the rules with thumbnails cuz I don't like being restricted to a tiny box. I prefer preliminary sketches, and practice sketches.

I love how his legs get fixed like halfway through, hahahaha. Reminds me of how I do things. <3
Question: Do you do adjustment layers at all? Levels/Color Balance? Do you use textures?
π: 0 β©: 1
Mudora In reply to Vestergaard [2010-09-07 21:42:37 +0000 UTC]
I use all of those, but only in at the end stages... meaning that I've set up well enough that I'm satisfied with it, but it needs something more. I'm trying to implement textures earlier on in my painting to see if it adds anything else.
I also play around with some of the levels and color balance, but not very much.

Finally, a walkthrough by Linds I've got two questions.
If the grayscale layer was in multiply, how did you manage to paint over your lineart?
And what do you mean by "don't cover up your values"?
About the opacity and flow, I always keep my opacity very low and flow on maximum, but I don't turn on "other dynamics".

Mudora In reply to LuisaRafidi [2010-09-07 16:37:08 +0000 UTC]
About painting over the line art. Easy.I just smacked on a new layer.
What I mean by don't cover up your values - sometimes, I'll put another layer on top of the overlay. I make it a good habit to not destroy the values that I worked so hard on getting, but rather making the color make the values pop out.

I have a question.
What does it mean when you say "fleshing out thumbnails"?
π: 0 β©: 1
Mudora In reply to Roonifer [2010-09-07 06:05:22 +0000 UTC]
"fleshing out Thumbnails" - what I mean by that is basically creating thumbnails in Photoshop, or on paper. If you didn't already know, Thumbnails are mini versions of the picture you want to draw, but you're free to be messy and just test out compositions. You can come up with TONS of them before you decide on one you want to draw on. With this step by step, I kind of skipped that part, because the idea came so fast.
