I feel that Broadside hasn't gotten much love over the past few years, which is why I made him Sketchup: my own rendition of Broadside, the Autobot whose famous alt-mode is an aircraft carrier!This is my second transformer made in Sketchup; the first being an OC by the name of Switchbrake made a year ago. By far Broadside has been one of my biggest projects yet as he is an aircraft carrier so I had to scale him properly. I'm quite proud of him; thought he turned out pretty well.

It would have made more sense if Broadside's aircraft mode had been based
on a Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy one of the world's largest cargo planes
instead of a F/A-18 Hornet a standard fighter jet.
Or if needed the flight mode could perhaps be a smaller version of the Ark.

Looks frigging fantastic mate! I like the attention to detail that you have taken for both his modes. I'm also quite a fan of how his vehicle mode looks futuristic.

My problem with Broadside was that his robot mode should have been larger than Skyfire's (Jetfire) but smaller than Omega Supreme's .

This is a good oc, but I don't think the name fits. Broadside reminds me a battleship, but Broadside in this case is a carrier. Wouldn't Flat Top or Flagship, be better since carriers are nicknamed flat tops in the navy and most carriers are flagships in each battlegroup.

What if the other mode was a Galaxy Starlifter, that is an epically sized military aircraft that could fit in proportion with the Aircraft Carrier mode.

Sadly the model isn't transformable. Essentially I just made 2 separate models (the robot and the carrier) and made it so that both models are similar enough so that it gives the illusion that the robot derives from the carrier (and vice versa).
In the future I would love to make a vehicle and actually have it be able to transform, but it seems really complex. I gotta hand it to the guys at Hasbro sometimes; it blows my mind with some of the more complex transformers and how they are able to make a race car or plane and turn it into a fully poseable robot.

I fully agree.. which is why so far all of my sets have been non-transforming (with the exception of the target master Roller) But I've sketched out several transformation sequences for different figure ideas.. one day I'll work up the nerve to actually make one of them a reality ^__^

Now this is interesting! We've featured Broadside's carrier alt mode in our G1 comic "A Gordian Knot" as well. We were obsessed with the size issue as well!
