Description I know there are a lot of folks out there who have gotten into sewing plush because of My Little Pony, and a lot of those who want to try machine embroidery and/or bought a Brother SE400 or similar machine. I know I did! Unfortunately, to make your own embroidery designs, such as pony eyes, the learning curve is rather intense.

I made this tutorial to offer a really basic, simple way to get started using SEU Design (free software) to make your own designs. This mostly covers how to take an existing image, such as the eye vectors from ~theNaro here on DA, and convert them into embroidery designs. I learned the hard way that this isn't a drag and drop program. Hopefully I can save other people a few dozen hours of hair pulling.

Part 2 will have more on editing the basic stitches.

DISCLAIMER: I am not an embroidery expert. I'm not even close. I don't know that much about digital art either, so I use Paint a lot. My methods are probably not the best, nor do they yield professional quality results.

But I made this tutorial to help all the beginners out just a little. Most of us just want to be able to make SOMETHING, and that's what this is. If you have suggestions for me on how to make this simpler, easier, or better, by all means! Just don't expect this basic tutorial to be something it's not.

Where can you get the embroidery software?

I think they have since discontinued downloads of SEU. The only other free software that I know of is SophieSew; otherwise you have to buy it, and it's expensive.

I hope it helps. I always meant to make a part 2 or even 3, but time got away from me. Plus there are these posts that say SEU will no longer be available soon, which makes me sad.

That's awesome! I keep meaning to do part 2, but just never have the time. I still struggle with it all the time, it's not easy, but I'm glad this helped!

Thank you SO MUCH for your help. I haven't the heart yet to plunk $300 on another embroidery program so this is a lifesaver as I didn't understand SEU.

If you have any more questions I'll try and help. Not promising anything, as I'm not fantastic myself, but just knowing how the buttons work helps a lot .

So this software and method works for the BrotherSE400? SEU, is that the Stitch Era Universal?

Yes, it works for the SE400 (that's the machine I have too). SEU is Stitch Era Universal.
