Description
Aside from world domination, my life's dream is for Sega and Capcom to team up and make an old-school 2D Sega vs. Capcom fighting game, a la Marvel vs. Capcom 2. And they'd get me to help them pick the roster and develop the characters! And we'd eat pancakes to celebrate! And we'd all become best friends!!!Anyway, this is how I think Midknight from Sega's Eternal Champions would look in Capcom's animation style, both in normal resolution and simulated "game pixelation". Enjoy!

Nicely done! You really thought these out! Now this game definitely needs to happen...

Thanks. I'm a really hardcore Sega fan, and I think they need to take time off from Sonic to develop their "other games".
I think Sega could outsource some of its licensed properties out to indie companies. A modern remake of Comix Zone or The Ooze? There could be SO MANY POSSIBILITIES! And as for EC...that'd need special care to make sure it doesn't get mutilated by the more materialistic or corner-cutting developers.

I totally agree! If Sega's not going to do anything with these characters, give them to someone who will! I know they're not doing well and need to focus on the licenses that will make them money, but that's all the more reason to sell off some rights and let people who love these characters do something great with them! They even squelched an indie-gamer's sequel to Streets of Rage, which looked amazing.
Man, I would love for Capcom or (better yet) Arc System Works to get the license for Eternal Champions! You know they'd do it justice.

I totally agree! It was a very sophisticated game for its time, even if the graphics weren't quite on par with some other fighting games. I always wish they'd have released the third game and completed the story, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Not yet, anyway. I always stubbornly hold out false hope.

course. '85 i was born. life was so much easier. u didn't have to worry about keeping discs in tact or memory cards. just slam in the cartridge and turn it on !! wasted many weekends on Street fighter & mortal kombat on the mega drive!! LOL

Heck yeah! I was born in 80, so I even remember the older days of the Atari and Sega Master System, but my heart always belonged to the Mega Drive (or Genesis, as it was known on our side of the pond ). Those were the days! Street Fighter II changed my life.

My heart was always torn between the MD & the Snes. when the mega drive brought out eternal champions, snes brought out killer instinct.

Ah, yes! I always favored Eternal Champions, personally. Killer Instinct was cool, but I could never get into pre-rendered graphics. I don't know why, but they never appealed to me. I think I have a bias for sprite work. Although I did like Clay Fighter, since they were digitized sprites of actual clay models. I actually bought a SNES just to get that game, since it hadn't come out on Genesis yet (and we didn't know if it would).

Wot did u think of Eternal Champs on Sega-CD? the Xtra characters r always a nice touch, (at long last, u can play the eternal champion. Woo-Hoo!), the stage kills r a nice change, (I liked jetta's stage. those clowns look so sadistic), with practice u can get some decent combos going. Enough about that, liked clay fighter, wasn't too impressed when it came out on the n64 (or Ultra 64 across the pond) but still great on the snes, killer instinct was amazing in the arcade. everytime i hit my amazing 50-hit ultra comba with orchid, the victory felt oh so sweet, but when i hit it on the snes, it didn't make the same impact. god bless the emulator!!!

Wow, sorry about missing this comment! Shame on me. Too behind on dA lately.
But yes, I loved Eternal Champions on Sega CD! Totally improved the game, I thought, and I liked playing as all the crazy hidden characters. They totally changed Midknight's moves set, too, which made him a much easier character to use. In the first game, he moved really fast, but all of his attacks were slow--didn't really make any sense. In the second one, they actually made him all-around fast, which I liked. They did get a bit gimmicky with all the blood and gore, but it sure was fun finding all the fatalities, and the cinematic sequences.
I liked Clay Fighter a lot, too! I basically bought an SNES to play it, since it didn't come out on Genesis till like a year later. I never got into Killer Instinct, though--the whole pre-rendered graphics thing never appealed to me, except for on Clay Fighter (since they were actual physical puppets).

I totally agree. I never owned a sega-cd so when i heard about there being a sega-cd emulator (Kega Fusion)
I was so excited to download eternal champions cd! loved the new move sets, sound effects, gameplay etc. Didn't care for the
whole instant kill thing. Why couldn't they do it like mortal kombat (u know, u beat the character then do the button movement
when the character is stunned) just seems too complicated
u r right about killer instinct. i mean i love it as much as the next guy (or girl ) but it lost much of its appeal when it went on the snes

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Battlesister [2013-08-03 18:28:52 +0000 UTC]
I never heard about the emulator! That probably came out years later, right?
Yeah, EC definitely paid a huge amount of attention to fatalities in that game, especially since they were so hard to get. I think they made them so complicated to try to distinguish themselves from Mortal Kombat--that the deaths are a hidden, secret thing you have to find, rather than something you get to do every match. I felt like it kind of watered down the impact of being able to kill somebody if you get to do it every match.
Yeah, Killer Instinct seemed all right, but I never got into it in the arcades. Something about digitized, pre-rendered graphics didn't appeal to me. I think it was an era where really polished character models were still a generation or so away, so I preferred the hand-drawn look of 2D sprites. It wasn't until later versions of Virtua Fighter or Soul Caliber that the 3D graphics really caught up to fighters. At least that's how I saw it. ^___^

u can download the emulator and iso from coolrom.com
ENjoy!
(FYI u may need to download the bios for it though )
i completely agree, where's the fun, but wot about the poor
perfectionists out there that want to conquer all the games? (LOL)
ur right, there isn't any sense of accomplishment if u knew how to
do the fatalities right off the bat. The stage fatalitys weren't too hard to do
(loved riptide's stage, like a scene from jaws
absolutly, i never went to the arcades either, i mean wot's the point?
money that was wasted there could have been put towards buying a copy
for yourself. i think it was the age of wonder and awe that lured teenagers into
arcades. god bless home consoles ! virtua fighter was, i think, the building piller
for the likes of tekken, soul blade, etc. The saturn was the best
console for 2d games like marvel super heroes, x-men children of the atom,
castlevania etc.
