Description For this feudal Japan storyline, I picture Slash as a brutal, cunning warrior under Shredder's clan, who gets "volunteered" for the mutation experiment. Feeling betrayed, he abandons Shredder and lives on his own as a nomad, taking no sides and fighting whoever the hell he wants. He would be an interesting wild card for the plot!

Thank you! ^_^

Yeah, as far as I know, Slash never appeared in any of the newer incarnations of TMNT, which is too bad--would have been neat to see how they represented him! I didn't follow the newer shows that much--pretty much all my TMNT art is based on the old school show and toyline, as cheesy as it was!

Cool looking Slash, are you planing to make one of Casey?

I am, eventually! Not sure when I'll get around to it, but in this ancient Japan storyline I picture him as a renegade pirate! Should be interesting.

so did I but i remember being very disappointed with how they portrayed him in the animated series. I was also a big mondo gecko fan

I couldn't agree more! The Slash toy came out first, and I loved it, then they made him a big idoit in the show--and he didn't even look the same. I was disappointed.

Mondo Gecko was cool! I thought about drawing him again, too. Probably Wingnut and Muckman, too--I like them a lot.

oh yeah, i would love to see your versions of muckman. I bet you could do a pretty kick ass pizza face too or maybe even a Dirtbag.
when you said draw mondo gecko AGAIN does that mean you have one of him in your gallery now? I did a pretty thorough look through and i didn't see him.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to carrion-heart [2010-10-15 20:39:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! I had considered Pizza Face before! Not sure if he'd fit into this "feudal Japan" series, but there's probably a way--maybe an old-timey sushi chef?

Oh, sorry about that! Yeah, I've got some old TMNT art posted on that Technodrome site: [link]

There's an old Dirtbag in there, too! And I've got them and some others (including Muckman) on my site: [link]

Enjoy! ^_^

I've always adored Groundchuck, Triceraton, Slash, Dirtbag, Rocksteady and Wingnut. (might be missing one or two)
My fav toys were Groundchuck and Triceraton, and I didn't have Slash until recently.

I adored your rendition of Triceraton the most probably.
So thank you for that!

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Dragonnis [2010-10-17 07:12:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank YOU! Triceraton would be a very cool character to draw again. Fitting him in this story might be hard, but I suppose he could be an inter-dimentional mercenary or official who comes for Krang. Even if he just made an appearance at the end, it would be cool to include him somehow.

Yeah, Slash was always one of my favorite toys, though I wish they'd made him a little bigger. They made him look huge on the back of the card! Makes me wonder if they screwed something up in production. Anyway, I liked Ray Filet, Hot Head and Mondo Gecko a lot, too.

Oh, and Muckman! But it always pissed me off to no end that they had better paint jobs on the card than the actual toy did. It just didn't seem fair to me!

Totally! In this story, I thought of Slash as being able to keep all four Turtles at bay at once, mostly because of his size. I like Slash a lot, in case you can't tell.

Back in the day, huh? Yeah, Slash is definitely one of my favorites, but I think I still like Raphael more. Like, if they fought, I'd want Raphael to win eventually, but only after Slash kicked the crap out of him for a good while. I've always seen Slash as the "Venom" of the Ninja Turtles!

Dragonnis In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-10-17 04:26:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah totally. I can agree, those kind of epic rivalry things are cool.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Dragonnis [2010-10-17 07:09:48 +0000 UTC]

Right! And generally, larger, more evil versions of things are very cool.

In this story idea, though, I consider Slash neutral, so he may end up with the Turtles at the end anyway. For some reason I like stories where bad guys are redeemed. Probably because of A Christmas Carol!

I always like badguys like Magneto. Like he and Xavier respect each other IMMENSELY, but they just have very different ideals. And badguys you can agree with/sympathize with, are always awesome.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Dragonnis [2010-10-21 18:54:35 +0000 UTC]

Definitely! Being able to identify with a character adds a lot of depth--a sign of a character with lasting influence. I loved Venom so much partly because I was obsessed with revenge for the longest time--he was kind to innocent people and punished guilty ones. That fit my old philosophy to a T!

Hey man, I have a combined pic of your "real" TMNT that I tried to color the way I thought they might look in color up on my page with full credit to you and your originals, But I have to ask...How do you get your colorings to look so good? I'm using paint and Image editor and I can't achieve the coolness you get. I no longer have a photoshop program so I am making do with what I have. Any advice?
And if you want me to pull that pic, I Respectfully will. Thanks man! Have a good one!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to LordNightwalker [2010-07-24 22:34:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind at all! I think it looks cool. Pretty close to how I would have colored them, actually!

I'm actually pretty new to digital coloring myself--I've only had about five years practice so far. What I start with is duplicating the line art twice (for a total of three)--the top layer is at 40% opacity and the bottom two are normal. Then I add color to the one in the middle, that way, the color can cover the lines without losing the lines, since you get them on the layer above. Then I create new layers for shadows, and adjust their opacity for how dark I want them. Reference the new TMNT drawings I have on here for this style. I know that's not the best way to do it, but it's how I came into it by trial and error. I've got a really old version of Photoshop, and I know people have more advanced painting methods, but I don't know them!

Something I learned just recently was that you can create new shadow layers, but keep them at 100%, then set your brush to around 10% pressure with wet edges, and you can build the shadows with multiple strokes. This gives you much more depth and makes it look more like an actual painting--it's like adding layers of shadow on a pencil drawing by hand. I went crazy for it! Reference my Monster In My Pocket and Steam characters for this style.

I know people get much better results with tablets and better painting software--a lot of them let you pick brushes that simulate real paint brushes, which must be awesome! I'm stuck with the dinosaur stuff, but by practicing my technique, I'm steadily getting a better look than I did before. I'm not sure if your software can do the same things Photoshop can, but chanes are it can because my version is so old! If you have any questions, let me know! ^_^

i think he coud use a few more toes and thoes knuckle blades he has in most other incarnations but other than that this is amazingly kick ass

MurderousAutomaton In reply to RHCP-FAN75 [2010-05-29 08:12:36 +0000 UTC]

I thought about the blades, but they didn't seem to fit the more realistic tone of these guys. And I thought the sickle/chain (I forget what it's called in Japanese) would be the one weapon that could disarm all the Turtles' weapons! Except for maybe sai--that's a tough call, actually.

This is top secret information, and I don't want to give too much away (since I'm planning on making it into a graphic novel or illustrated novel or something), but Sai is one of three of his kind, and he's the only one left living. Shocking!

They actually don't look much different--just minor changes in fur color and length, since they originated in different regions of the world.
