I love the not-so-subtle-yet-not-direct explanation of who Rainbow's family was XD

Fun comic, man! It's facinating seeing how you twisted classic toys and have made such an apocalyptic story out of it.

Ha, ha!  Thanks, man!  I figured that explained a lot about her personality.

Thanks so much!  I'm having a ton of fun with it!  It's been really interesting re-examining these worlds and characters through the eyes of a bitter old adult. I'm trying to work a subtle subtext in there about how our view of the world can feel like a wasteland compared to how we saw it as a kid.  How we can keep wanting to look back, but that well has dried up.  We can only recapture that feeling by moving forward to something new, rather than dwelling on or trying to recreate the past.  Basically stuff I'm trying to accomplish in my own life. I'm not sure I'm a skilled enough writer for this to come through in the story, but I'm trying to build up to it a bit more as the series goes on.

Yeah, it makes a lot of sense. And more than enough sense that a daughter of such a couple would end up a bit of a rebel.

It honestly shows that you're pouring a lot of passion into it!

For whatever it's worth, I think so far I've gotten a stronger "don't give up, press forward" vibe than a "don't dwell in the past, press forward" vibe, though of course there would be some natural overlap there. That was the prevalent aspect that stuck with me the strongest, at least.

But it's a great choice of theme, now more than ever when nostalgia is resold more and more. But it is up to us to take inspiration and create the new, where others may only rehash!

Exactly!  She'd either have to be a wasp like Barbie, or rebel against it all.  Maybe her rebellious (and selfish?) nature is what helped her survive the war!

Cool!  That makes sense!  That's the crux of the plot, too.  I guess the aspect of "not dwelling on the past" is more in service to the overall theme of perseverance.  Thanks for the feedback!  Feel free to share any other thoughts on the story as well!  I'm always looking for ways to improve.  I know the story got off to a pretty slow start--hopefully it's not too boring!

Totally!  I try not to be guilty of rehashing '80s stuff as a marketing tool--it's more because I love those properties so much, and wanted to explore their role in our subconscious as we grow older.  My goal has always been to draw inspiration from the things I love to create something new, rather than just reproduce what I see.  It's an ongoing process--I don't always succeed.

I'll keep that in mind!
But no, I wouldn't call your story a slow start. You've been introducing enough new creatures and characters and bits of story often enough that nothing has felt boring, and I'm always looking forward to what we might discover next.
I particularly enjoyed the reveal that the creators were long passed
I think the biggest legit critique I have is that Wood's font is a bit hard on the eyes.
But yeah, I've been enjoying it!

Cool!  Good to know!  I had envisioned the whole thing as a graphic novel (or series of graphic novels), so I did write it with a more gradual build up to the crazy stuff.  I'm always paranoid that I'm violating the writing rule of showing and not telling--I have a lot of backstory to get across, so I try to convey it in as natural a way as possible.

Great!  Yeah, I love mysterious elements to stories, so it was fun to work that in there a bit.  My major concern is not to just jump from thing to thing--that it feels like each plot point feeds into another, rather than just being a series of set pieces.  Things are interconnected in subtle ways, so if they seem disconnected (which I worry it does), it might get clearer as the story goes on.  Hopefully.

Yeah, I probably should have work-shopped Woods' font a bit more before going forward with it. I was drawn to it initially because it looks like a perfect mix of the font of the other characters' dialogue and Woods' own native language font, so it seemed like the perfect way to convey an accent... but combining that with his speech structure and using all caps might not have been the smartest idea. I guess it would be weird to change it now... maybe if I do a "remaster" of the whole series for a graphic novel set, I could change it.

Thanks again, man!  I appreciate you reading it, and for the feedback!  It's really helpful going forward.  ^____^

Annnnd that's read.  When's the next one coming?

I have a hard time imagining Rainbow as the child of Barbie and Ken, but it would explain the mental issues.

Ha, ha!  Uh... soon-ish.

Yeah, I went back and forth on that too, but decided it'd be a fun way to reference those characters without having to put them in.  And Rainbow totally comes off as a person who didn't get enough attention as a kid.

Was she like this before the world fell apart, or did she always break the fourth wall?  And are we all going to end up the same after dealing with our viral apocalypse?  I mean, talking to yourself is one thing, but talking to an unseen audience is another level.

Good question!  I feel like the first thing she did after she was born was look at the audience.

Ha, ha!  That's a sobering thought, eh?  I think I'm half way there already... feels like my whole life so far has been accompanied by an unwanted laugh track.
