Description Dug out from my old 1993-94 stuff... as almost all my pictures.

I've been fascinated by the scene at the time, both in the Silmarillion and in the Lay of Leithian

Now it all looks a bit funny, with these blue wolves and Sauron so frighteningly ugly (like some giant beast or monster) here, partly by reminiscence of the Tale of Tinuviel ( Tevildo the Cat), partly because I just could not imagine him then as an evil magician in a fair shape (something Annatar-like, as he is often portrayed)...

As for Finrod, I just tried to draw how he sang and made visions in the light , striving with darkness... And this Finrod turned out to be a real success, when I sent the picture to LJ community! Desperate inspiration, maybe?

It's too bad he lost, and was mauled to death...

I love this scene in Silmarillion, and the way how you captured the battle of songs here is stunning!

Finrod has long been my favorite (or one of my favorite) Silmarillion characters, and so everything with him always has a special place with me. I think you've captured the feel really well. I have often wondered what the scene may have looked like, and I think this is the closest I've ever seen to the way I think it may have looked. It's really lovely.

I appreciate very much your appreciative comment on my drawing.
It is rather old, made in 1993 or 1994, a mix of impressions of the Silmarillion, the Lay of Leithian and the Book of Lost Tales, that is, of all Simarillion/Tolkien - stuff in English that I could find at this time at the reading-room of the Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow.

Good idea, indeed. I like the way how you did this "meeting".

Thank you so much. I've just tried to make the songs of enchantment visible...

Felagund looks sweet! (not like Awww, sweet, but more like: AWWW MAN SWEEEEET!) This is one of my favorite scenes in the Silmarillion (there are so many to choose from too) I have to admit I kinda like Sauron and Finrod both, and I was sorta mad at Sauron for killing him. X( The song of light and darkness are really cool too. I don't know if I'll ever draw this scene, I'd probably fail miserably! Great job and God bless!

This is a photo, not a san, that's why the whole picture is looking much lighter that the original one... Finrod is rather out of the focus and not very clear, but if so many people, and you among them, find him sweet, great, handsome and so on, then it may be so (I mean my picture, not the character).

There are three other representations of the scene on Elfwood, one by Joseph M. Olonia (color), two by Karen Beaser (color and black and white).
Have you seen them?

Probably, I've seen alot of the Silmarillion pictures on Elfwood. One of the Sauron/Finrod pictures I liked especially. I don't remember who drew it though.
