Description Constructed many years ago by and ancient civilization and powered by dark glyphs and runes, they are worshipped by the populace. Unbelievably powerful and ulmost invincible, these mechanical behemoths can be called to do ones bidding through a complex ritual and the possesion of various mysterious artifacts. Although the process to control these ancient beasts is dangerous and difficult, the pure destructive force those who do complete the rituals are able to harness is almost unfathomable. Some are driven mad by the power, while others are found husks of their formers selves, their souls ripped from their bodies. However, these "Old Gods" may soon be needed, as hordes of demons threaten to overcome mankind. But, will even they be enough.

Since they were created originally as war machines, the remaining behemoths are made of a thick metal, unpenetrable by almost any means, and they all posess weapons and strengths of immense power. Sometimes however, these weapons of destruction show glimpses of conciousness inside their metal shells. Is there something we're missing about these ancient machines?

----Data log: Origin
Origin, as this specific machine has been named carries a scythe capable of decimating entirre cities in one blow. It once possesed the power to destroy the very fabric of reality with the wave of its hand, but the salvaged ancient texts suggest that it lost the use of this power in a battle with another machine of its calibur. However, if it was to somehow regain this power, it would be regarded as one of the most powerful Ancients to date.
Origin's glyphs allow it and parts of its body to basically float, practically immune to the effects of gravity, thus, it is very fast for an object of its immense size (although this is still not very fast) As Origin's name suggest, it was one of the first ancients mentioned in ancient texts, leading us to believe it as one of the first ones built.

I hope you like this one everybody! I colored a lot faster this time, thanks to techniques learned from a FAQ , and the fact that I didn't go overboard on the layers this time

I decided against using the pre-made lighting effects in PS for the light near the top of the pic, and I thought the one I made turned out pretty well, so tell me what you think about that please

That's all for now, thanks to for sitting there while I colored and giving some awesome suggestions.

I love this! You have a very distinct style of cell-shaded coloring and the plot line and involvment of Origin is more creative than anything I could do. I love the weapon too, it's quite beautiful and the way you depicted it's gravity ability with it's body structure, is...Breathtaking. I thoroughly enjoy your style and have just peeked at your gallery, I hope you may be able to humble my gallery with a visit and also that we may be friends on DA.

Thank you very much, and I'm glad you took the time to actually read the plot ^_^ (I understand long descriptions are annoying, but sometimes I just have to put them in, or I get on a roll, or something like that...haha).

I very much appreciate your courtesy and would be glad to be friends with such a kind person. There are too few in the world, too few.

"...carries a scythe capable of decimating entire cities in one blow." you do know that "decimating" means killing one person in ten, right? so basically the scythe is only cabable of wiping out 1/10 of a city's population. But otherwise it is very good...i wish i had a tablet!

this was a seriously cool and well developed robot, the coluring is nice, but the lineart needs to be cleaned up making clean lines would make this much more fitting and solid for a robot and more aesthetically pleasing

I agree. I have serious trouble fixing up my line art with my tablet. I'm never happy with it. That's definetly up there in my art to-do list...I'll get it some day!

I'm glad you like it though

intersting lines....and art........do you use tablet?..and which programm?
may i suggest few things?..maybe you know them..but...uh....it would make your pics look maybe lil bit better....o.o

Mutantwombat In reply to EnD-Reitanna [2007-06-17 15:54:53 +0000 UTC]

I didn't use a tablet for the lines on this piece, just the colors, and I used Adobe Photoshop CS.

Sure Suggest away, I'd really like to know what you think.

EnD-Reitanna In reply to Mutantwombat [2007-06-17 17:34:14 +0000 UTC]

1. try not to use brushes..i mean..you know such ready brushes..that you can download..it looks cheap in most pics...
2. if you would draw lines..even with mouse i would suggest pen tool....
3. try not to color only ib black-white shading way..i mean..not like simply yellow, dark yellow and high yellow....but maybe one other color to this like blue maybe..or so...so it gives complements effect..and more information to pic...
4. is he out of metal?..maybe you should give more reflection -effects...or i dunno....look...i give you example..her claw is from metal---> [link]

i hope you are not mad and it could help you with futher pics.XD

This is really awesome~ It reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus, have you heard of it? Except this dude's gold and isn't all connected and doesn't have fur and is a GOD~

Really awesome! I don't have critique for this picture~ I'd just like to know how tall a man would be compared to this thing. Probably about the size of a hamster compared to an adult human.

Good skill with the grass brush.

I'm very impressed with this particular work. Looking at it and trying to pick apart certain parts to critique's been difficult, but mostly I'd say to pay a touch more attention to your light source. The front of the character's head would probably be more heavily shaded than the other parts of the body, but I also understand that this could just be a stylistic choice (the sun is weird enough in real life). As far as that goes, maybe shade the bottom edge of the sky a touch to give it a little more depth and I think you're set! Good job.
