Description 1 of the 2 commissions I'm doing for Makosharkman

He requested Peter Pan and a young Hook getting to know each other as friends. In this scene Peter's design is slightly different from how I usually draw him. This is because Makosharkman had some guidelines for me to follow for both Peter's and Hook's design.Β

I acutally really like how this picture turned out. I really like the fading trees and branches in the background. And for the first time the guys I drew don't actually look that much like a girl. I'm usually not that good at drawing males, they always end up looking very feminine. I knew I had to nail it this time because first of all, this is a commission. And second of all, Hook has long hair! So he would be very likely to look like a women if I didn't try out new things.
And let's face it. Peter Pan, you're awesome but with your tights and all you look rather fabulous. So I had to be a critique for him as well.Β

But all is well in the end. The results are nice I think. In this drawing Peter and James (Hook) are getting to know each other. They are comparing their weapons and telling each other about all the benefits those weapons have. Little do they know that the knife Peter is holding now will cut off Hook's hand in the future. And the sword Hook is proudly presenting will probably kill lots of Peter's friends in the future. Ohh the bittersweetness of this story just makes me love it!

"What's your name?"
"I'm Captain James....Hand."
"Captain Hand? That doesn't sound very intimidating for a pirate!"
"I know." T_T "But I can't think of anything else to use! It needs to be catchy, something menacing yet simple. It needs to have a...have a hook!"
"...I think I can help."
"Really? Please, tell me!" ^_^
"Well, close your eyes and hold out your hand...." >:3

WHOOAAA Β You are the best!!Β

The scariest thing is, this is something he would do in a heartbeat. Peter is pretty f*cked up when you think about it. He kills all the time according to the original story. He even switches sides to keep things interesting

Hmm...

"What the hell, man?! You cut off my hand!!!"
"Yep! Now you replace it with a hook and you'll be Captain Hook now! See? Simple yet intimidating!"
"What what what! But, but by THAT logic you should cut off your hand and replace it with a frying pan!"
"...YES." O_O
"WHAT!" @_@

There always was something a little off about Peter. >:3

Peter of course. She hates captain Hook (I only take J.M Barrie's original story in account).Β

really why is that out of curiosity?

My-Anne In reply to Makosharkman [2015-11-26 11:51:30 +0000 UTC]

Because he is the original writer and so he tells the original story. All stories told by others (prequels, sequels, spin-offs) are just interpretations of the story made by others. They are not canon, savvy.Β
Although I do enjoy reading and watching spin offs and all things related to Peter Pan. I just don't view them as part of the original.Β

well no offence to.J.M Barrie but he could have been more clear with Peter Pan because I read the book and it said Peter ran away when he was just a baby and how is that even possible.

and also I take it you have seen the movie Pan that just came into theaters.

that's the beauty part, it leaves things open for your own imagination to fill in those blanks. Thanks to that there are so many sequels and spin offs now. And remember, it's a storybook. Anything can happen in a storybook so babies running away when only three days old? No problem

And yes, I've seen all the things

true you got a point but how would Peter grow up because if he went to Neverland as a baby how would he grow up because remember Neverland keeps you from growing up and the Peter Pan we all knowΒ is not a baby.

and tell me what did you think of Pan?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

My-Anne In reply to Makosharkman [2015-12-01 22:53:52 +0000 UTC]

that's because he DIDN'T go to Neverland when he ran away. Really, this is all in the book...Β
Okay, when he was a baby he lived in Kensington Gardens for a long long time. He lived with fairies and animals. That is where is learned to play the Panflute too. He grew up there and once he was a kid he moved to Neverland.Β
Then there is the Neverland itself. The land does not prenvent from growing up. Peter makes the rules and the entire land responds to his actions. Peter's number one rule is: Do not grow up. The lost boys know this and try to follow the rule. They manage to age slower but can't stop it entirely. The only one who actually succeeds at not aging is, you guessed it, Peter. When Peter notices a lost boy has been grown up, he 'cuts them out'. That's what the book says. So he either kills them, or banishes them from the group, the book is not clear about that. Yeah, Peter Pan isn't that as sweet of a story as most people think. But that's the case with most fairy tales of course.Β
So what I'm about to tell you now has never been confirmed by the book, but I just believe this myself: When lost boys grow up, Peter banishes them and threatens to kill them. The banished lost boy eventually will resent Peter for this and join the pirates. This is why they made it their life goal to kill Peter. This theory also explains why Hook never runs out of pirates, even though Hook himself and Peter Pan have killed many of the pirates.Β

Okay, so on with the movie! I REALLY LOVED all the visual stuff. The mermaids were beautiful, the faires were amazing. And I just LOVE how the indian camp had this bohemian touch to it. The story line was also very clever and I enjoyed the movie. But then again, I will never connect this story line to the original one because it's not part of the original. Also, the story that the movie told us (about peter's mother, his origin, etc.) is completely different from what the original book told us.Β
But this does not mean that I can't enjoy movies like this. I loved it! I just don't take it very seriously

ps: I love having this conversation with you!Β

Makosharkman In reply to My-Anne [2015-12-05 05:22:10 +0000 UTC]

Well that explains that.
Really that is really cold was J.M Barrie planning to have this fairy tail as a kids book?

I agree the movie was great the storyline was great it look like a rip off from Arthur and the Invisible 's which maid it more interesting. I bet they maid the Origin about Peter mother Β and Peter at the Orphanage was because of the same reason why I don't understand Peter original Origin about Running Away when he was just a baby.
And one thing they could have done with James Hook is Β have him as Peter half brother like they could have mentioned that Peter mother had kids with Two men she had Peter with that Fairy Prince and guess who she had James Hook with Black Beard like Peter father king and James father could have been Black Beard which explain alot.

And tell me have you seen the Peter Pan film called Hook with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman?

Sure I've seen it! I liked that one

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Makosharkman In reply to My-Anne [2015-12-06 16:25:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it was very epic and interesting like How Robin Williams learns he is Peter Pan himself and learns the whole fairy tale is more then just a fairy tale that the story was base on a true story that it all actually happened because there is a saying I have herd it goes like this There Are Some Folktales Ghost Stories Β And Fairy Tails That Have Been Around For So Long That It Makes You Wonder That Maybe Just Maybe They May Not Be Maid Up.

But there were a few things I did not understand like what maid Toothless grow we know why Peter did but what about Toothless.

And how could they make Β Rufio die at the end?

And why did they not show Tiger Lilly.Β

They probably wanted to attack people right in the feels

Have you seen the Peter Pan movie from 2003? That one is my personal fave out of all Peter Pan movies. It's also closest to the original. And closest to how I always pictured Peter Pan.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Makosharkman In reply to My-Anne [2015-12-07 05:09:55 +0000 UTC]

Is that why they killed Rufio?

Yeah I saw it I was surprised how it Really ended Peter stay in Neverland while the lost boys went to live with Wendy if I were Peter I would have went with them to.

And I was surprised to see Hook had a human side that he and Peter could have been friends or were ounce which gave me the idea to write a Untold story about it.

I don't know why they killed of Rufio, maybe you can look up some interviews about the movie. They might clear the subject.Β

And about your story, will you upload it on DA? Maybe I'll read it

Men are not drawn with curves. Their body types are different than from women. If you need some good idea on how to draw proper men or boys, look at photos for references, just don't try anything to obscure.

sorry for not responding sooner.

but very well drawn I love how you drew both of them and the background.

I wasn't expecting Peter to show James his dagger or James show Peter his sword I wasn't expecting James to have his sword yet but I can make him have it or maybe he finds it on a sunken ship along with the hook that later on becomes his hand.

and lucky thing they don't look like girls or we bothΒ feel embarrist.

anyway it looks great.Β

I'm very happy you like it
And of course the sword thing... When I invisioned them getting to know each other, I thought it would be more appealing if I could show the audience they were talking about something they have in common. Otherwise the picture could get a bit boring... Maybe we can say the sword Hook is holding isn't actually the sword he has when he gets older, but a training sword or something. It's now your illustration and you can do whatever you want with it.Β
Still, I am very happy that you like the drawing!
