Description Just finished this one this afternoon.
A small one (again) although not as small as the EarthyMini!
9cm wide x 8.5cm tall x 2.5cm thick.
Springback, raised cords, 3 part closure.
Heavy, hand-stained watercolour paper, 54ish pages, torn and gold edges.
Pigskin leather cover, hand-dyed. Recessed bits in hand-painted sculpey, crystal (green aventurine and Paua shell cabochon), and wood.

EDIT: Thankyou for the DD, I'm so honoured!

Also, there seems to be some confusion here that I've noticed. Not just with this book but also with others. I do not COVER pre-made books. All of my books are bound from scratch, in the Springback style. For those interested in how this process works, you can see the binding of one of my larger books on my website, here: [link]

Love!

There are a few other books on DA

Yep, entirely myself. From the hand-dyed paper to the sculpted decorations, handbound, handdone everything. Short of skinning the pig and moulding the paper.

Do you sell these or make them just for pleasure?

This one I sold. And for a long time book commissions were all I did. I've moved on to concentrating on my painting more lately, however

This is wonderfull work, I love it. I tried once to make a book.... well... I suppose the fact I hadn't any leather, any sculped clay, any stone any idea of how to make one and no talent for it was the reason why it dind't looke like a book at all
Anyway, this is very impressive, not only this one but all the books you've maid. I'm very curious about it, and rigth know I'm wondering how you make all the sheets of paper staying together (that's one thing about my book that dind't work.... maybe it was the main reason why it dindn't look like a book ^^ )
As evrery one has said I would love to have one of your books at home, It would be a wonderfull support for my work.... thought I'm not sure I could actually draw or paint in it for fear to ruin it
Well, keep it up, you are very talented

Again - absolutely lovely! Do you make the decorations yourself? I'm dying to know how you attach them - especially to the spine. Beautiful!

myceliae In reply to applegirl5 [2008-05-16 23:00:48 +0000 UTC]

I made everything
And the attatchments... a secret

applegirl5 In reply to myceliae [2008-05-17 05:05:07 +0000 UTC]

The decorations are lovely. I'm bummed that your method of attaching them is a secret. That has been my biggest challenge - hiding the attachments behind the endpapers and still keeping it smooth...

Absolutely beautiful! What kind of education do you need to make something like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

myceliae In reply to IreneLangholm [2008-01-29 22:14:42 +0000 UTC]

I taught myself everything I know. It's handbound from scratch, so you'd need to know how to hand bind a book, to start with!
After that it's just imagination

*hug*

I was checking your website last night to see the making of the Fairy book comission. Stunning work, and very interesting how book binding is done. I would have loved to see how the leather is made and applied as well.

Now I have a question for you, are those wand lookings things you have on some books actually supposed to be like wizards wands?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

myceliae In reply to mygzus [2008-01-03 00:15:17 +0000 UTC]

They serve their purpose a a "pin" to hold the book closed... it was only a happy accident that they turned out rather wand-ish.
