Description
This past Friday, I was on my third day of my last batch of sugar water. I haven't had any hummingbird visitors all week so I was going to take the feeders down. Then in the afternoon this little one stopped by and hung around until the evening. Needless to say, I made another batch of sugar water and refilled. My lunch break involved me standing about 5ft away from my feeders with camera in hand. This hummingbird did not mind me there at all! I got my best shots of the season both perched and in flight.

Thanks for the critique! I tend to get a lot of photos with a clean background (because of the placement of the branches, anything behind them is far away) - with my old set up anyway. Expect to see more shots with surroundings from me in the future

Thanks for messaging and look forward to seeing others. I have not decided whether I wish to be a full member on deviantart as already paying for two other sites so although I would love to be daring and ask for a critique or two on my pictures I can/t. Would love if you wanted for you to have a look at my pictures and tell me in general what you think. My technical know how sometimes lets me down. So lots still to learn. take care.

I only do photography as a hobby so I may not give the best technical observations.
I really, really like this shot. I've tried to take shots like this of hummingbirds and can never seem to get them staying still.
The focus, lighting and clarity of the subject is simply stunning ... right down to the noticeable grain in the feathers. The sharp focus on the subject and the soft, out of focus background give this picture an almost 3D look and clearly separate the greens of the bird from the green of the background.
Very well done. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for the critique!! It helps that I have branches on my feeders. It gives them the perfect place to rest in-between meals.

We finally got a feeder with perches, but I still can't manage to catch a picture with them resting ... but I'll keep trying

I don't know what it is about this particular branch. They always go back to it, even though there are two trees nearby that have great cover. They even chase the finches off these branches!

Not so much where I am. In upstate New York, most of the hummingbirds are now gone. Anyone we get now are just late migrators.
