Description
This past Friday, I was on my third day of my last batch of sugar water. I haven't had any hummingbird visitors all week so I was going to take the feeders down. Then in the afternoon this little one stopped by and hung around until the evening. Needless to say, I made another batch of sugar water and refilled. My lunch break involved me standing about 5ft away from my feeders with camera in hand. This hummingbird did not mind me there at all! I got my best shots of the season both perched and in flight.

There are less and less these days, from what I have read they are on a south bound trip and hit feeders on the way, the sugar boost helps them to feed on small ants and other tiny insects, the shot is incredible and well almost to perfect, I hope the little guy (or girl) stops by my feeder on it's way

They are mostly gone up where I am. I never really got too many at once anyway. I hope you get the pleasure of having them stop by!

absolutely charming love the pose and placement of your view point
I know that the fall migration is happening for you, but it still seems so early to me...I'm hoping that some of my horde decide to move on - I've been going through about six cups of nectar a day I wonder if not filling the feeders would encourage them to head further south
but I feel so responsible....

Wow! I don't get enough hummingbirds to use a lot of nectar. The most I've had at one time was 4 or 5 - any they wouldn't use the feeders at the same time. I only end up putting a little bit because there is always some left when I clean and replenish. It would be interesting to see so many, but I can see how it can also be a pain to use/make so much nectar!!

it is fun to have so many, most are Anna's but we have a blackchinned pair too and the occasional Rufus migrant...I'm afraid that once it starts to get cold and rainy with so many depending on my nectar I'll be causing hummer starvation if I miss a day

Fabulous capture! You must have infinite patience to take such wonderful shots of these quick little critters. Most of the hummies I see are too speedy even to identify, easily. Thank you so much for sharing!

They are interesting. I started studying them further this year. Even without photographing them, they are wonderful to observe.
