Description
So, a friend of mine is going back to Germany after 7 months in Canada. She invited a bunch of people to a farewell dinner and I made these lovely maple cookies for the occasion.I couldn't find any good sounding recipes online, so I kinda made up my own from a modified version of one of my favorite sugar cookie recipes. Here it is:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs,
1 cup maple sugar (substitute with brown sugar if you can't find maple sugar)
1/2 cup dark maple syrup
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
Cream first four ingredients together until smooth and fluffy.
Stir baking powder into flour, mix well, add to egg mixture and stir well. Once it gets too hard to stir, start kneading the dough.
You get best results if you refrigerate the dough for at least an hour before rolling it out. Simply roll it out and cut with cookie cutters, arrange cookies on parchment paper lined cookie sheets.
Bake at 400°F / 200°C for 6 to 10 minutes, depending on size and thickness of cookies. (bake until the edges start turning golden if you want soft cookies, bake until the edges turn slightly brown if you want harder cookies)
I decorated the cookies with marshmallow fondant in red and white... well, to be honest, the real cookies are actually a bit more pink than red, I adjusted the color of the photo.
Anyways, they taste lightly maplely and are nice and sweet.
