Description After Horizon, and Kaidan's harsh words and accusations, Venus Shepard had locked herself in her quarters, refusing to see anyone.
None of the rest of the crew knew her like Garrus Vakarian did. He had been there when Kaidan had stolen her heart, when he first made her cry.
He had been there on Horizon, heard how Kaidan had railed against Shepard, accused her of being a Cerberus puppet. Shepard had stayed strong than, holding back the pain and just letting Kaidan Alenko walk away.
That was why he was outside of her quarters now. Alone in the small space between the elevator's door and Shepard's. He had been there for ten minutes, staring at the green panel, indicating that the door was unlocked.
Maybe he had been wrong? Maybe he had been overreacting and she hadn't locked herself in her quarters after all?
Still.... He owed it to her to make sure. She was his closest friend, one of his only friends. She had believed what he had to say about Saren all that time ago, and she had come to rescue him from the mess on Omega.
"Shepard?" He called through the door. At first he heard nothing in response, but than soft footsteps.
"G-Garrus?" There was a catch in her voice, a saddness. And suddenly, the turian could no longer stand it. Without waiting for Shepard to open the door for him, he entered her quarters. His eyes darted around, barely taking in Shepard's impressive book and ship collection, only stopping when they finally had her in their sights.
Venus Shepard was standing by her wall-sized fishtank, holding the picture of Kaidan she normally kept on her desk. Her bright golden brown eyes were wet with tears as she stared speechlessly at the man who had just burst into her quarters.
No... not again... Never again... Garrus moved fluidly, and than he was by her side, pulling her towards him. One hand was on her hip, lifting her slightly off the ground. His other was in her hair, running through the silky strands. Her hair had not always been long. It was the two long years as the subject of the Lazarus Project had made it grow. As the sweet smell of Shepard's shampoo wafted into Garru's nostrils, he realized how grateful he was that Venus had not gotten around to cutting it. His mind drifted to the first time he had seen her on the Citadel, than shortly thereafter when he had first heard her laugh. And than to so many other moments where he had not been brave enough to act.
"Garrus..."
Her voice brought him back to reality, and he focused his eyes on her face. The dark spots across her nose, the fine arch of her brow... the flush in her cheeks and the slight smile tugging at the corner of her lips as the faced him.
He owed her an explanation. He owed her everything.
"I once promised Kaidan that if he made you cry again, I would take you fom him. . . . . . I plan to make good on that promise." Garrus growled.

--- --- --- --- ---

I SPENT WAY TO MUCH TIME ON THIS PICTURE, BUT I LOVES IT SO MUCH!

Okay, enough fangirling over myself, I apologize.

It stars Venus Shepard (With longer hair than in my comics, because two years.) And Garrus Vakarian. Takes place right after Horizon.

This is where Garrus makes that promise: [link]

Garrus Vakarian is property of Bioware. And Venus Shepard is property of me. So there.

I can't describe how much this made me fangirl. You're amazing. Did you write this too?

Yes. Yes I did. Did you like it? I'm somewhat unsure about my writing.. more so than my art. And I'm glad it made you fangirl! It made me fangirl.

I just wanted people who like my comics to see I can do more serious pieces as well.. And well.. when do I NOT have Garrus on the brain?

I did like it. It was a simple, but fun writing style that conveyed the emotion and tenderness of the moment perfectly. Great work.

Mission accomplished.

Oh good. I'm sure It would be more refined if I had spent more than... ten minutes... writing it.. Just if I take to long doing things, I tend to over think them.

I wish I had a tablet and a photoshop program. Than it would be easier to get pieces this colored. But alas. Still, I'm pleased with it.

Get gimp. It's a free program. A lot of people give gimp crap, but I have found it enjoyable to use (considering I didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for it). What types of pencils did you use here?

Well, I don't have a tablet at all.. And I am not comfortable with drawing with a mouse. >_< Uh... I used a combination of prismacolors and a generic pencil with a harder lead.

But my poor black colored pencil is so small now! *cries* Luckily I have another one.

You should familiarize yourself with "path" features on GIMP. That is what I do for my line art because I have a slight bit of nerve damage in my hand and can't make pretty lines to save my life. With layers, it should be TOO difficult to color with a mouse. However, if you still don't fill comfortable I won't beat you with a 2 by 4 until you do.

I LOVE prismacolors. My coloring is much better with them, but it's so much easier to do it on the computer. I love their blending abilities!

I've found that if you take a colored pencil of the same shade, but a harder lead, it blends even better. Helps get rid of a lot of those white spots of the page peeking through. I'm still refining my skills, this picture was great practice.

Hm, never tried that, I didn't know they had harder leads for colored pencils.

Not prismacolors. But SangantArt (The generic brand I was using.) or perhaps Roseart? They don't blend nearly as well by themselves, but they help spread the prismacolors really nicely.

Really? Roseart? I tried those once and they DID not work well for me. I've had better luck with Crayola then Roseart. Maybe I didn't get the right kind.

Myridd In reply to keokotheshadowfang [2012-04-11 02:03:46 +0000 UTC]

Roseart is CRAP without Prismacolors. You need to use them together! Do a layer of Prismacolors, than do the roseart on top. That's what I used on Garrus' shirt, the water in the fishtank, Shepard's skin.. Basically everything.

Hm, and interesting thought, I'll have to get some roseart and try out this new conspiracy now. xD
