Description The Ojibwe name for this region was Waswagoning, meaning, "A place where they spear fish by torch light."

This lake is called Torch Lake by the less poetic Western European imigrants.

Waswagon is the lake my house is on. It is now called Torch Lake. Waswagonning means fishing with torches.

Awesome woman who can fix 'home technology'. I can debug a lot of things but usually call my son, the IT guy at a distance.

Happy you enjoyed the link.

there is a class here at the u that my friend had to take... it was about technology ostensibly freeing up the lives of people (or not). it included information about how it really just gave women another job in the home, fsa (family systems administrator).

myrnajacobs In reply to equivoque [2006-03-26 16:07:43 +0000 UTC]

That is very funny! My husband is a 'user' of the technology (over-user) and though his current computer never crashes, he used to regularly crash his whole system! I couldn't imagine what he was doing to it for that to happen and there was simply no training him. Thank the Apple gods for a more stable system!

yes, and with os x (based on a unix kernel), it is really, really stable. my sister called me in desperation once over the matter of viruses and general inability to manager her computer. she is a smart woman (a doctor!), but she had had it with her computer. when she asked me what she could do, i told her get a mac. she did, and i never get desperate computer user calls anymore!

Oh, yes yes yes. My family has always owned Apple computers (well, except for a Commodore way back when! ... and one little TRS80 for my son when he was first learning to program). I don't know how people continue with a Mac. Sad, stupid people....

Tahoe used to be incredibly clear, like your lake. Sadly, no more. Like the seasonal feeling of this and the way the foreground rocks play against the trees in the distance.

myrnajacobs In reply to m0nni [2006-03-26 15:58:09 +0000 UTC]

Mostly now, the fish are not in the shallows because the lake is so populated, but I couldn't catch one either and especially not with a spear!!

You would certainly not be disappointed. It is a simply gorgeous lake! It's the "3rd most beautiful in the world" according to the National Geogragraphic Magazine.
