Description
"Be'lial and Piter"The two Czechoslovakian Vlcaks/Wolfdogs
I got to meet a week before leaving TX.
It was such an honor.
I will not forget that day, what a wonderful breed!
I have to say Piter was much bigger than what i had expected from photo's to in person! When he got out of the car I was all: O__O <3
And Be'lial the pup (Piter's son) was such a sweetheart!
Hes my favorite. Haha!
Special thanks to Jason of AmeriCani Kennels
for driving about 40 miles just to let us meet them!

This piece is a mix of watercolor pencils, and colored pencil. Both Prismacolor. And reffed from the photo's I took of them myself.
(my first mixed media piece

Yes it was! I actually meant to thank you, as I first found out about the breed through your photo's!
There is a wonderful group on facebook for American Vlcaks, and that is how I found that breeder.
There are only 2 breeders in the U.S. that I am aware of. So i was very lucky that he lived so close at the time and was willing to drive and let me meet them. C: I have fallen in love with the breed and hope that one day when I have a suitable home that I can own one.

Hearing that makes me very happy;] It's one of the reasons I post my wolfdog photos online - so that people can see that there exist even more awsome animals than Huskies
I hope you do obtain a Wolfdog some day in the future! My mission would be quite accomplished then, Vlcaks are an invasive species

Lovely drawing! "Piter" sounds just like "Peter" which reminds me of Peter and the Wolf

You did a nice job with the fur texture and anatomical proportions. Those watercolor pencils are pretty fun, aren't they?

Yes i've been playing with them a bit lately.
Do you perhaps have any general tips?

They aren't chief among my materials, but when I do use them, I find it is best to use the pencils as though they were not going to be effected by water later. I find some artists rely heavily on the application and transformation of the water to pick up the slack of a poor under-drawing. If you draw with 100% of your capabilities, the water-color effect will only enhance what was drawn for a new effect, instead of a vain attempt to hide imperfections, you know what I mean? The exception to the rule, if someone is predominately a traditional water-color artist and has mastery of water-color techniques, they simply will treat the pencils as a dry form of their typically tubed wet media, in which case, they imagine the exact opposite- that their water coloring painting techniques will be used regardless of the coloring medium used. As I am not of the latter group, I have to focus my energies on the drawing! Hope that makes sense!

Yes it makes sense as I have actually noticed it myself. Hearing it from a more experienced artist only confirms my assumption about treating them like regular colored pencils.
Thank you!
Weird how they work that way isn't it?

Yes- and that's the thing about mixed media- ESPECIALLY this particular combo- if an artist is not careful, the two can look very crafty and less "fine art". A clear image of what the end result should be is important. Sure, there will be some happy accidents, as water has a mind of it's own. That's why you instinctively know you have to lay a good foundation!
You're welcome!
