Description One of my classes focuses on monsters. This has lead us to exploring classic and current works of horror, one of which has been Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. After Frankenstein, it's my favorite book from the class so far. I wish I'd read it sooner, but better late than never.

Hyde, whether he was a separate personality or just a mask for Jekyll to wear to reek havoc, was a very interesting character, as was the conflict between the two personalities.

I noticed in many adaptations, they make Hyde visibly deformed, even though in the book described him as having the air of deformity without being deformed. Also, though they are often the same age in adaptions, Jekyll is fifty, while Hyde is a young man that is suspected as being his son at one point, one that is short, bony, and doesn't look anything like his other half.

For some reason, when I was reading this, I imagined Jekyll as looking like Jeremy Irons, while Hyde was looked a bit like Brad Dourif. Either way, it was fun to draw some of my favorite actors even if some resemblance strayed intentionally or not.

I am going to make this into a painting for my other class. But I like this sketch quite a bit, especially since I want to be a penciller and need my portfolio to have uncolored work, I will leave it black and white, which poses a bit of a problem when I have to add color in the end. It will mostly be sepia toned with some spots of color, but I'll see how it turns out.

Here is the finished painting

Hey, is it okay, if I use the hands in this drawing as reference, because I can't draw hands for shit.

What d'you think about the 1996 adaptation with John Malkovich, if you saw it of course? Hyde in this version isn't deformed, he's more someone very attractive.

I should see it, if you're recommending it, it's probably good. He's just supposed to be repulsive even if people don't know why.
