Description colored pencil portrait on black paper
original size ~18" x 12"

This is a scanned copy, of a photocopy, of a drawing I did, of a photograph I did, of my grandmother...did you get all that. Anyway, I was young and took for granted the time I had with her. When she died in 1997 I realized that I had only taken but a handful of photographs of her. She was a great woman, and deserved to be sculpted in gold. This drawing captures her love and her sparkle.
**EDIT~ I added a little more contrast and fiddled with the levels a bit in Photoshop to make her a little more visible.

wow...thank you so much...this one really means a lot of me... I am thinking about resubmitting a better scan of it...like of the original...I am currently scanning some really old art from college like 8 years ago...but what the heck...my friend says to submit it. so I think I will. I thought about posting the reference photo I took of her too, but I drew a grid on it...oh well...thank you sooo much...and don't be chicken...I usually suck at colored pencil...and it ends up looking like crayon, but I seem to be getting a little better with each try...its just that I dont do it very often at all. Thanks again.

yeah its hard to see if your monitor is too dark, but she is making a fist kinda with her thumb sticking out under her chin toward her neck...it is a weird angle...but the photograph isn't really that different. Plus the submitted copy is a really lousy scan of a smaller version of a copy of the original...so...yeah...bad quality. I should see what I can do about updating the image to a better quality one. We'll see. Thank you for the comment though...I really appreciate it.

What a wonderful tribute. It's a warm, loving drawing, too. You did capture a sparkle in her eye.

thanks.
This was actually the first thing I submitted to DevArt way back...hehe (not that long ago) But it is just now getting looked at. I appreciate the comments, because I think I am more attached to this piece, than any/all of my other pieces. It really means a lot to me, and I have it framed in my livingroom.

That means a lot. Thanks a bunch. She was a wonderful woman...I am thinking of posting a trio of silly pictures of her. The latter of which I drew this from.
