Description
Miscellaneous warning symbols from the Steamopera. The symbols in this picture are, well, chronologically from here and there. Most of them I did recently, but the Aetheric warning sign is the oldest (done ages ago as a simple abstract symbol), followed by the general warning symbol, then the radiactive symbol and "atomic!" symbol, and the rest were made recentlish. Then I just put them together.
Steamopera being a pseudo-alternative history (not rigorous because of all the nonsense elements), so the warning symbols that we have in our timeline didn't evolve there.
The most familiar one present here is the skull, which is used for all things bad and nasty.
The generic "warning" symbol (a bit like our triangle+exclamation mark '!'
The biohazard symbol is a rounded variant of the ninjew star - the jewriken. Long story. Anyhow, I quite like it. It kinda looks organic, and with those pseudo-arrows, it looks like it's gonna spread, y'know?
The No Oxygen sign was an attempt to gather the balls to put a swastika amongst these symbols. Damn you, Adolf Hitler. Damn youuuu. I was thinking elect... OH SHIT. *that* was the one I forgot! I totally forgot. I was supposed to make a symbol for "warning, sparky! burny! electry!" Damn. Heh. Oh well. I made the biohazard symbol instead. Like, "hmm, I know I'm forgetting something that I should make, what was it... biohazard! That must be it. Biohazard, yup."
Anyhow. The No Oxygen sign is completely abstract. It doesn't have any symbolism behind it. It was left-overs. I was going "what am I going to do with this symbol?" and then I just made it a symbol for "hey, this area has nothing to breathe! Isn't it wonderful?" It's also used as a symbol for "this area is a 'vacuum'. A 'vacuum' will suck your eyes out' and areas of high and low air pressure.
Atomic sign was just a sign to make a sign for atoms that would seem atomy, but wasn't our atomic sign. This was an attempt at something else, but it fit well the atomic theme.
Radiation sign was one of the derivations made which were ultimately based on what became the Generic Warning sign. It looks a bit sunny.
Explosion sign is pretty simple.
Death's head, eh.
The Aetheric signs! Now, these was originally a symbol I made ages ago. I like to make symbols. And I needed some sort of symbol for aetheric stuff (read: basically psychic, but less mumbojumboish than usual, you know the drill: also, aetheric space propulsion. Didn't see that coming, did'ya?), and tried with three eyes and stuff.
The second aetheric warning sign warns of aetheric impulses and waves. It's basically just sound travelling in the aether, so it might give people with strong aetheric sense a headache or make them faint, etc.
The aetheric stream warning is basically for when you have an aetheric stream, from, say, an aetheric torch. It'll be invisible to human eyes, but it'll cause damage to stuff if it hits. It's like an air-pressure blower warner.
Mechanical stuff: self-explanatory.
The rest are signs for materials that have different gravities. Antibaric is anti-gravity matter in Earth gravity - probaric is orinary matter. Alpaneutral is neutral concerning antibaric and probaric matters: it attracts both, but it repulses betaneutral matters. The Sun is alphaneutral, so betaneutral stuff is really expensive to get in the Solar System (a small bit was introduced by the sundered planet Nemesis that waded into the neighbourhood as the PoD). Abaric basically is a mixture of antibaric and probaric stuff, and means the stuff doesn't have any netto gravity (and you take into account buouyancy and so forth). More at [link]

Great. Are atomic power and biological agents commercialized in this war? What do Mechanical contraption and Unbreathable air mean?

Hah! I love the Aetheric warnings. If I had an Aetheric propeller like you have in Steamopera, I'd definitely stick one of those on it!
