Description
Sans (c) Toby FoxFor those of you wondering why I'm drawing in red, it's because black on a white background strobes too much for me to see. o_O Using red (and blue sometimes) keeps my eyes from getting tired.
And now we have the Tablet version of the lineart tutorial! This is what I do for pretty much everythingΒ I draw that has an outline. The only difference between pieces is how many different layers I have to use to keep layering the details >v>'
(By the way, sorry for my crappy handwriting xD)
Hope this helps!

It's my belief that anyone can draw if they put in the time. I've been working on my art skills and style for two decades (and actively using a tablet for 14 of them), so it's not like I just woke up one day able to draw xD I have some truly scary sketches from my early days where it looks like people's faces are melting off... >v>' At least I think they were faces? o_O
What I mean is that every drawing counts. I think I heard someone tell me once that you have to get through 10,000 crappy drawings before you get to the first "good" one.

Yeah, I've heard that a lot. And it's not like I think I'd never be able to draw, it's just that I find it difficult to put in the time and dedication you need to get better at art. I end up giving up because it's too frustrating and then blaming myself for giving up too easily afterwards. And then I abstain from even trying for the longest time, and once I feel like drawing again, the cycle starts over.
And there's also the problem of not really caring enough to truly get better...
Eh I guess I'll stick to writing for the time being ^^`

Fair enough. ^_^
I can't really say the way I went about it was the best since I spent all my classes doodling on my assignments instead of completing them. Though I did ace the tests (I have near-perfect audio recall) much to my teachers' chagrin. xD

Haha!! I used to doodle a lot too, but since I have zero to no audio recall, and drawing makes me forget everything around me, doodling at school kinda set me up for failure XD

ooohΒ if i were to draw in red or blue to keep my eyes from getting tired, how would i switch the lines to black when i've finished the lineart? O_o
sometimes when i watch people drawing online it's almost as if they have magic buttons to completely highlight JUST THE LINES and nothing else and i'm like whhhhaaaaat how they do that? I could only think to select the line art layer and then lower the levels to get the coloured lines to black?
Thanks for this tutorial ^^

If your lines are on a separate layer, just lock the opacity and recolor them. There should be a little button that looks like a small chess grid on the little layers window. It locks the alpha (transparency) so you can fill in whatever colors you want without going outside the area you already colored/drew. That's how I do all my colors as well. xD
I know in GIMP you can right-click the layer and do "Alpha to Selection" which makes a selection of whatever is on the layer. Maybe that's how? In Photoshop you can just shift-right click (I think) the little picture of the layer in the window and that'll do the same thing.
Not a problem! ^_^

xD
I totally understand. Most of what I know about Photoshop and GIMP coming from a lot of trial and error. Mostly error and mostly in Photoshop since I've been using it since version 3.1 x_x I miss 7, before the CS stuff got going. PS 7 was so fastΒ and could do everything I wanted. GIMP's nice enough, but man it's a trial by fire. xD
