Well to explain this further you'd have to know a bit of my childhood. I grew up being told I was fat and that I had to lose weight and be skinny to be beautiful. My parents were good to me but that was their only flaw. They always wanted me to be someone I wasn't. I have a curvy body and my mom, despite blaming my eating habits, never truly started me off by feeding me the right foods I was supposed to eat growing up to prevent me from being over weight so I have to change my whole lifestyle to make it happen.Anyway, I'm very self conscious cus my parents always told me I wasn't good enough to keep or get a guy. They always told me I had to be perfect looking and skinny lol. So when I went shopping for clothes and I couldn't fit in a pair of jeans I broke down XD. I'm such a cry baby. So that's what my bf told me.

I feel the same way you do~ but my bf tells me the exact same thing. My parents don't matter how I look like, but I still get worried like you did the in the comic. It's a scary though but my bf makes me feel 100 times better~

My dad was the same way. I never had a bf as a teen, and then met my fiance and was so afraid he would think I was too fat, but he actually hates it when I lose weight, because he says he likes me fluffy.

my family did the same and they tell me the same thing every time I see them its a little disheartening and I have always had bad self esteem issues. I've gotten better over the year to like myself for who I am but sometimes when my relatives say something I just kind of forget. It was nice that he was pretty much saying ignore them listen to me because I love u!!!

ah, your parents are like that, but its my father side of the family is the same way. when i was growing up, all you hear is "i gotta be skinny." "I gotta lose weight!" "Look at this dress, it's 20 years old and i still fit in it, can you?"
but it all changed with my sister...she and i are the only ones who listened to my mother, "If a man is going to love you, he's gonna love you for you! and if you want to lose weight, its because you want you, not for him, but for you!"
my sister and i are over weight, but she's happily married to the love of her life for going on 10 years now and they have three drop-dead gorgeous boys. and for me...college first then love later on... and if a man tells me lose some weight and he's not my cancer doctor or any other of my doctors, then he's gonna lose his reproductive organs, but listen to the ones who loves you the most!

my boyfriend tells me the same when I have low self-esteem attacks... I look at it this way: if your significant other makes you feel sexy and wanted, you don't need the approval of others (no matter how good they think their intentions are).

me and you both i am also puerto rican and both my parents say the same thing your fat you would look so much better if you lose weight and then they try to say oh well we dont want you to get diabetes. it's bull and my fiance says the same thing he loves me the way i am. we are alike i guess lol

Crying over not fitting a pair of jeans is okay if your parents think you have no chances getting guys unless you're skinny. That kind of thing just festers inside. I think your boyfriend is awesome for telling you that they are wrong.

I went through the same thing with my mom so I know exactly how you feel being insecure about your body image. I met my hubby and all that changed! There are days when I have all those feelings crop up and he is there to smash them back down to size. Tell you BF from me that he is a wonderful man! Plus Girls United Forever! We have a union and everything!

Don't listen to your parents! Everyone is beautiful no matter how they look! We all have our bad points! You don't have to be skinny just so you can get a boyfriend, you are a living proof of that. Your boyfriend love you the way you are, or else he wouldn't have dated you in the first place.
Not matter how you look, he love every single part of you, including your physical appearance. Plus, it's not the outside that matters, it's whats on the inside! You have many great characteristics to be proud of.
So erase all of your worries and insecurities, because you are an amazing woman with a boyfriend that loves you with all his heart and soul!

It's the reverse for me and my bf. when we first started going out, he said he was on a diet to lose weight and I thought, 'You have little weight you can afford to lose compared to some of the other guys in this town.'

It happens to us all. Remember that while clothes can be standardized the same cannot be said of people. We're all built differently girl. So don't fret. I for one hate jeans, they never fit me well. But tights? Those I call "licra"? I feel sexy wearing that. Try them and see.

Wow, I canβt believe your parents said that. If he didnβt like you then he wouldnβt have become your BF in the first place.
Iβm chubby too but I still attracted guys (unfortunately most of them were troublemakers so I didnβt want anything to do with them and others I didnβt really know and barely saw).
My parents want me to lose weight but itβs for my health (thatβs also the same reason I want to lose weight) since there are few members from both of my parents family that have diabetes (including my dad) and theyβre afraid that I might get it if Iβm not careful. Even if I tried to become skinny then I would fail because I have big bones and am a bit bulkier than most girls so it would be impossible for me to look truly skinny. Of course I donβt really care if I have a βperfectβ body or not I just want to be healthy

Oh, man, I know exactly how you feel. My dad used to call me fat all the time, saying how I'd never get a boyfriend because of my weight. Well, lo and behold, I have a husband, and I'm still pretty chubby. (Working on getting fit, though, because my family has a history of diabetes and heart issues. I wanna get healthy so I don't run into that.
