Description
I know, shame on me - a bokeh tutorial...an actual tutorial on the damn stuff. Some people probably want to throw shoes at me and begin affending my mother D:I couldnt help it! Some people just ask me how i got this effect, how i got that effect, is it real? did you manipulate that? are you jesus in disguse?
- - - - - -
This tutorial is a tad longer then my others - but i just couldnt help myself - plus there may be spelling mistakes hidden somewhere amoung all that macro nonsense so please reframe from reminding me...unless i misspelt my name or something. Alot of writting as usual - but i'm not in the mood to take behind the scene shots and then use them - this is effort alone. If there is anything that needs explaining - god help me - then i'll b happy to go over it with you. I do try to emphasize the fact that you need to flash and a lens with mannual focus....as well as the point i make about out of focus-ness...i'm not patronising you i just live amoung idiots...and am one also.
Your probably going to want to download this...
Have fun! I know i did....
Rainy day
----
EDIT
Oh forgot to mention the irony of the texture i used - i'm sure someone might have noticed.

It is perhaps a much messier way but it does give beautiful results

So really is it just putting you lens on manual and focasing o the object?

Bokeh is basically created by having a wide DOF and a more narrow point of focus, when any subject that reflects light (or even is light) is out of focus; it becomes predominant circles or under a low F stop hexagons.
If you wanted to replicate the last image in the tutorial; then yes.

Excellent job explaining! I've never tried to do bokeh photography, but I've always admired it and used stock in some images of mine. I'll definitely try using these methods sometime!

Thanks for this tutorial, can i do this with "NIKON COOLPX S3000"

Nariscuss In reply to FlorimMucha [2010-10-27 18:46:15 +0000 UTC]
Bokeh is universally achievable with any camera, these are just a few methods.
The reason I'd state a DSLR giving better results is because you have far more control with a DSLR, compact cameras are full auto mostly. Plus the lenses also effect the quality, which is something you can't change with a compact.

Awesome tutorial. I just wonder if it'll work with my Nikon Coolpix S220... I'd love to get some pictures like these, but I'm probably not getting a DSLR until I take Photography in college next year =/

Nariscuss In reply to EquideDesigns [2010-09-24 11:09:09 +0000 UTC]
Bokeh can be achieved with any camera. As long as you have a half decent depth of field it should be ok <3 if you are interested in getting a DSLR and want to create this effect read here on using manual with a DSLR, again this was done using my canon as a referance but can be achieved with every DSLR.

There is a manual setting on ALL digital cameras - understanding this will hep regardless.
On most digital compact cameras the only thing that is mainly different is the white balance, they have fewer options and it usually includes monochrome and sepia.
Plus they don't have a 'manual setting' but you can manually change the settings on automatic i think.

Hey there
I have a favour to ask of you... I am currently doing my Year 12 HSC (Australian: Higher School Certificate, ie. Last year of high school) Information Processes and Technology major project, Which is to be a website on photography and cameras.
I saw your tutorial and was wondering if I would able to feature it on the site I make. Of course, You will be fully credited with links to your deviantart profile and deviation page.
I will also send you a link at the completion of the project if you would wish to see.
I would really appreciate if you agreed, but if you donβt, no hard feelings
Thanks!
