A lot of people asked me about how to blend from my last tutorial, so here's a guide to blending I made that might help clear some things upRelated content

Thank you for this! I've never really used flow because I can't tell what it exactly it controls. At the top of this tutorial it almost looks like it's controlling the brush spacing but I know that can't be right. Can you explain it for me really fast?

yeah that's exactly what it does, greater flow makes a smoother line, lower flow separates out the individual circles

thank you so much. I have a question. In the last time I tried to paint without lineart. I get the hint to color over them. But I donΒ΄t really get it. When I paint in a new layer over the lines, I donΒ΄t know, where the nose or the eyes are lying, because they are covered with paint. So I tried to paint around the lineart, but that donΒ΄t really works. Anoter time I watched a video, where someone drew a sketch, made a new layer, painted the lines new and colored on the same layer. The person blended the lines with the color and in the end they wasnΒ΄t visible anymore. I tried that, but in my paintings it looked weird , the nose or the eyes looked different than before and so on. So my question is now: How do I manage it, that my picture donΒ΄t look like the restored jesus-fresco in spain?

hahaha wow i know exactly what you mean!! Yeah, sometimes the work looks completely different when you start to color the lineart than what you intended. I agree with taketoyamenushi if you set the lineart to multiply you'll be able to draw underneath on a layer below it sort of like making a coloring book for yourself where you can delete the lines at the end. I also find it helpful just to work with references if I'm drawing the human face especially to remind me of how the shading fits the form. You don't have to copy directly from the references exactly but it might help to have them nearby to keep the face from warping.

Set the lineart layer to multiply, you can always put the layers in the order you want at the end.
