And that's when Cagney the Cardinal realized that his red feathers didn't blend well with the brown background. Pretty birdie! I love how the males take care of the females. We have some in our yard. The boys will look for these chubby green caterpillars and seeds from the bird feeder. Then, while the little beige female is sitting on the ground with the mourning doves, the male will flutter over to his mate and feed her. It's so precious!

Hi, What you witnessed was the Male feeding that years youngster...that won't feed the adult Females... once they get older they are on their own.

That's a cardinal. Do females have that turf of feathers on their head?

Nice shot! British Columbia doesn't get Cardinals unfortunately, so I always enjoy seeing photos of them by other photographers.

Hi Greg, Thank you!
I'll tell you what... trade you a few Cardinals for a couple of Lynx and Wolves....those I would never see in New England.

That sounds like a deal! Assuming I can get approval from the Environmental Registry.

Hi Tony, Yeah and this one was a real pain...I watched him for over 10 minutes and only got 4 pics and this is the best.

I had one who came to my bird feeder, would sit in the old apple tree and watch me fill the bird feeder 20' from him. Let me step outside with my camera, every time boom he was gone. LOL

Yup that's what I have noticed at my feeders also..so I set my rig up, go back and get the seed, and when done filling..side step to the camera and start shooting pics...worked for about 5 times then they got wise.

You have some pretty birds across the pond. Or maybe I'm just used to the ones in the UK...

Nice capture!
