Description
patch notes*Same tutorial, updated for windows 10 since nobody is stuck on 7 anymore.
*It also looks much nicer now, woot woot!
*Smaller and easier to load, just as helpful.
Benefits to this method versus restarting your computer:
-Restarting your computer too often is not good for it!
-When you have a good idea, get to drawing it faster!
-Works on virtually every brand of WACOM drawing tablets.
Warning: This will result in the loss of any pen pressure settings and preferences you have set.

Oddly enough my tablets settings activate when I restart my tablet in the services menu, also for some reason my pen pressure won’t work despite the fact that I installed the latest driver and restarted my laptop. This tablet is very new too.

hm!! i've actually never heard of something like this before. Have you tried getting pen pressure to work in any other programs besides the one you primarily use?
I've heard of programs like SAI not detecting pen pressure until the program itself has been closed, then the tablet stuff gets reset, then you can open it again.

Oddly enough Sai was working fine before this sudden change. When I tested my other sketch programs the pen pressure was there. Sai is my main program so I really don't want to use anything else.

ahh gotcha, well I'm not sure that i'll actually be able to help you with this, but have you checked out this guide?
Pen-Pressure Sensitivity Not Working in SAII'll talk a little first.
What is pen sensitivty? Well basically,
It allows you to vary the width of your pen strokes with how much pressure you apply to it, and almost essential to digital art.
You can notice tapered ends to the strokes with pen pressure but the same width in the strokes without.
Please don't forget to install/update your driver! It is NOT optional! Please install it. You should be able to find your drivers online easily by doing a simple google search of your tablet model + "driver". (ALSO NOTE: Yes, you NEED to have a pen tablet in order to use pen pressure. It is 100% necessary!!! The brand does not matter, but the most popular is Wacom. You can find super cheap small second hand tablets on ebay if you want to start out small, and if you draw a lot, it is definitely worth the investment.)
Common tablet brands and the link to their list of drivers:

No need to delete the preferences, as restoring to an existing .wacomprefs file works as well (at least on my machine). And of course doing it that way doesn't cause one to lose ones settings.

You may have a different issue then! Whats your tablet doing?

Banjoker In reply to nautcious [2018-11-11 19:08:12 +0000 UTC]
It basically acts like a mouse instead of a pen. Possibly consequential, my tablet uses a wireless adapter rather than a cord. I have restarted my drivers, stopped and then started them, disconnected my tablet and reconnected, the typical on and off of the tablet, and then I have also relaunched my program. The one thing I have found that does help most of the time is to sign out of my computer and then log back in, no restart needed most of the time. It is slightly time consuming though.
Edit: I also removed the User Preferences to no avail.

What does it do if you try and use it with your mouse unplugged? It almost sounds like it could also be a compatibility issue. What progams have you tried? Also have you tried turning off "windows ink"?

I use a laptop, so no actual mouse, just a touch pad. I use SAI exclusively right now. I haven't tried Windows Ink though and will check it out. Thanks for helping so far!

hi! sorry i know this post is old but i wanted to see if you had a solution o3o Recently my laptop had to go through an update, and when it was fully updated i started using my laptop again. I got my tablet (xp pen 15.6) and did the usual (just plug it in and the other steps) and when i got on my drawing program (Medibang paint) the pen pressure wasn't working, which is weird because it worked fine before the update. is there any way i can fix that?? i looked it up on youtube and on the tablets official website but i still can't fix it.

Unfortunately i dont have any experience with xp pen, but i imagine if you go into the task manager and kill the tablet driver, unplug and plug the tablet back in to force it to start again, that might work.

The same method still works! I pretty much used the same process when I had windows 7. Just find the wacom preference file utility!

I tried this to no avail! The pen sensitivity is still nonexistent :/ do you know of anything else I can try to fix this?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nautcious In reply to xRosario [2018-08-09 03:16:47 +0000 UTC]
Assuming you've already uninstalled and reinstalled the tablet drivers, try replacing your tablet pen nib, and also make sure there isn't any settings in your drawing program(s) that is turning off pen pressure.
I've also heard a little from someone about their computer detecting their tablet as a mouse for some reason, but I have no idea what to do in that case haha
check to see if it works on any other computers if you're able to!

Hi there nautcious!
I'm hoping you can help, I'm being hit with the most bamboozling of issues of when I draw I have a delay of a second before my line draws (and completely skips the beginning of the line!) but the error only consists when using Medibang and Fire Alpaca which really isn't ideal because they are the only 2 art programs I am confident drawing in.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (both the art programs and the tablet).
I've tried going through the computing services.
And even tried the above!
Now it's got me wondering if my tablet is at the end of it's days (8-9 year old Wacom Tablet) or if I'm doing something wrong.
